Group 2 test for the three-year-olds

Paris-Vincennes, Tuesday 31 May: The 2019 crop comes under scrutiny today in two Group 2 races.

First up are the stallions in the Prix Kalmia (3rd race/17.03/120,000 euros/2175m). Just A Gigolo (Franck Nivard) is undoubtedly the prime of the crop. The stallion trained by Philippe Allaire has won eight races so far and the last one was in the Prix Paul Karle (Group 2). He won by a clear margin against nine of his competitors today. Juninho Dry (Paul Philippe Ploquin) still held up best to the Allaire protégé. Jaguar Wit (Tony Le Beller), Jambier d`Ourville (Laurent Koubiche), Jag Stryck (Matthieu Abrivard) and Jakartas des Pres (Eric Raffin) fought neck-and-neck for the other places.

The Prix Ozo (4th race/17.37/120,000 Euro/2175 m) gathered twelve mares at the start. Jazzy Perrine (Eric Raffin) stands out among her age-mates. This year she stood out with victories in the Prix Gelinotte (Group 2), the Prix Roquepine (Group 2) and the Prix Masina (Group 2). Her only defeat was in the Critérium des Jeunes (Group 1) against Just A Gigolo, who ran in the stallion division. Joke (Gabriele Gelormini) was particularly pleasing as a runner-up to the Malmqvist mare. In the Prix Masina she brought Jazzy Perrine to the brink of defeat. Jenny de Joudes (Alain Laurent) has not lost a race in three starts. Joy Captain (Jean-Francois Senet) and Joyeuse (Mattieu Mottier), who recently scored under saddle, are other horses in form with chances.

German guests in Strasbourg

Strasbourg, Monday, May 30: A large number of German-owned horses enrich today`s event in Strasbourg, where a victory for the guests seems possible in the Prix Beck Boissons (6th race/15.00/22,000 euros/2350 m). Waldemar Hickst (No More Bolero and Langarud) and Peter Schiergen (Salvatore and Moonflight) are represented with two chances each. Andreas Suborics and Sascha Smrczek saddle Lost Dream (Martin Seidl) and Grand Cru (Bayarsaikhan Ganbat), two mares who have already won here. No More Bolero (Marco Basamento) turned his only appearance to date as a two-year-old into a complete success. Like Lost Dream, he is making his first start of the season. Langarud (Alexander Pietsch) finished in a maiden race here twelve days ago together with Plaine d`Espoir in the beaten field, before that he also disappointed as a highly rated horse behind the narrowly victorious Salvatore (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev). Pendulum Valley (Theo Bachelot), trained by Edouard Montfort, who recommended himself for future tasks with a triumph in Lyon, could put a spanner in the works for the German guests.

Prix Saint-Alary + Prix d`Ispahan in Longchamp

Longchamp, Sunday, May 29: The Longchamp track is the venue for two classic races today.

Three-year-old fillies are under order in the Prix Saint-Alary (4th race/15:45/250,000 euros/2000m). Prosperous Voyage (Frankie Dettori) finished ahead of Wild Beauty (William Buick) in both the Fillies Mile (Group 1) and the English 1000 Guineas. The mare, trained by Ralph Beckett, was now expected to win. Above The Curve (Ryan Moore) announced herself emphatically as List runner-up at Chester. She rounds out the favorites with Place du Carrousel (Mickael Barzalona), who won the Prix Cleopatre (Group 3).

In the Prix d`Ispahan (5th race/16:25/250,000 euros/1850 m) Pretty Tiger (Maxime Guyon) and Sealiway (Mickael Barzalona), who last finished next in the Prix Ganay behind the victorious State Of Rest, will meet again. The two four-year-olds should get a close look at Dreamloper (Kieran Shoemark), who showed up in the Dahlia Stakes (Group 2). Dilawar (Christophe Soumillon), runner-up in the Prix du Muguet (Group 2), and Dawn Intello (Gerald Mosse), coming off a successful Italian excursion, are also conceivable up front.

Torquator Tasso awaited with great excitement!

Baden-Baden, Sunday, 29 May: All of Turf Germany is looking forward to this reunion: Torquator Tasso is back! In the Grand Prix of the Baden Economy (Group II, 70,000 Euros, 2,200 m) on Sunday, the last day of the 2022 Spring Meeting at the Baden-Baden racecourse, the 2021 Arc winner will start the new racing season.

Of course, he is the house favourite to win. With Dato (B. Ganbat) and Alter Adler (A. Starke), the two first-place finishers from the Carl Jaspers Prize are also in the mix. Dangerous is the ex-Union winner Best of Lips (M. Seidl). And Mansour (S. Vogt) climbed further and further up the career ladder in 2022.

In the Casino Baden-Baden Silver Whip (Listed race, 25,000 Euros, 1,200 m) the short-distance aces meet, such as Waldersee (E. Pedroza), who held his own in Hanover.

The BBAG Badener Jugendpreis will be contested by the youngsters who will be competing for the first time. Zariza (A. Sanna) seems to be the number one of the two Grewe horses according to the rider distribution.

60,000 Euros are offered in the four-horse bet of the 5th race (Equalisation III, 1,400 m), including a jackpot of 20,000 Euros. 11,111 Euros are up for grabs in the 10th race (Equalisation IV, 2,000 m).

In total, the final programme in Iffezheim includes ten races between 1.30 pm and 6.50 pm.

Elitloppet with German participation

Solvalla, Sunday, May 29: The famous Elitloppet meeting in Solvalla enters the hot phase today. In two preliminary heats, the top four finishers in each race qualify for the Elitloppet final, which has a record endowment of over ten million crowns.

In the 1st preliminary heat (6th race/15:28/600,000 SKr./1609 m), Etonnant (Anthony Barrier), winner of the Prix des Ducs de Normandie (Group 2), should make it into the final. His main rivals include fresh Gulddivision and Elitloppet previous year`s winner Don Fanucci Zet (Örjan Kihlström) as well as Önas Prince (Per Nordström) and Brother Bill (Jorma Kontio), who were one-two in Örebro recently. Cokstile (Christoffer Eriksson) is recommended by his success at Finlandia Ajo. Vernissage Grif (Alessandro Gocciadoro) and Click Bait (Ulf Ohlsson) fell short in the Meadow Road Lopp but appear strong enough to make the shortlist. Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) is to be noted with the performances achieved in Canada.

Without extremes, the 2nd preliminary race (7th race/15.55/600.000 SKr./1609 m) will be decided. German hopes rest on Mister F Daag (Robin Bakker), but the 2018 Derby winner faces his toughest task yet. Vivid Wise As (Matthieu Abrivard) finished second behind Don Fanucci Zet last year. Currently, the Italian won the Prix de l`Atlantique (Group 1) against Etonnant. Hail Mary (Erik Adielsson) prepared victoriously for today`s test in Rättvik. Who`s Who (Ake Svanstedt) deserves a note as the final winner of the Paralympiatravet ahead of Night Brodde (Conrad Lugauer). Snowstorm Hanover (Magnus Djuse) and Admiral As (Per Lennartsson), who are used to winning, are conceivable as finalists at any time.

Great Derby preliminary test in Baden-Baden

Baden-Baden, Saturday, 28 May: The second day at the Spring Meeting in Baden-Baden on Saturday also offers sport at its best. Because the Derby is casting its shadow here - in the 200 Years of German Gallop Racing Derby Trial (Group III, 55,000 Euros, 2,000 m). Whoever is in front here is certainly considered one of the top candidates for the race of the races in Hamburg.

Here it is more the quality than the quantity that impresses with only six participants. Pirouz (C. Lecoeuvre) was the list winner in Italy, Wild Man (B. Murzabayev) and Queroyal (E. Pedroza), who are currently on course to win, are also among the great hopefuls.

On the other hand, the Henkel - Prize of Diana is considered the target for the mares in the Baden Racing Diana Trial (Listed race, 25,000 Euros, 1,800 m). Here the game is quite open. We trust Agneta (B. Murzabayev) and Wild Gloria (A. Starke) with a lot at this level.

There are eight races scheduled between 1:30 pm and 5:35 pm, including two tests with the four-horse bet. 40,000 euros await in the 4th race (Equalisation III, 1,600 m), which includes a jackpot of 7,790.10 euros, and 11,111 euros stand above the 8th race (Equalisation IV, 1,200 m).

Three preliminary heats for the Sweden Cup

Solvalla, Saturday, 28 May: The Elitloppet meeting on the oval in Solvalla today is dominated by the Sweden Cup, with three heats to determine the top three finishers in each race for the final.

In the first elimination (1st race/12.45/208.000 SKr./1640 m) Lucifer Lane (Johan Nilsson), currently victorious in Mantorp, is expected to win, but Zaccaria Bar (Alessandro Gocciadoro) also has first chances after his Paris triumph. Officer Stephen (Dion Tesselaar) underlined his strong form in the Gelsenkirchen Bild Cup and, like last year`s fifth-placed Elitloppet preliminary, Milliondollarrhyme (Ulf Ohlsson) should not be missing from any consideration. Seismic Wave (Björn Goop) and Disco Volante (Örjan Kihlström) are conceivable in strong hands in the front race at any time.

The second preliminary race (2nd race/13.15/208.000 SKr./1640 m) could be an affair for Diamond (Björn Goop), who is still winless this year but still in good form, although Chapuy (Ake Lindblom) has also attracted attention with plenty of good placings this year. Racing Mange (Joakim Lövgren) and Bill`s Man (Erik Adielsson) are two fresh winners with chances of a podium finish. Bepi Bi (Alessandro Gocciadoro) in the hands of the Italian top trainer, Jason`s Camden (Olli Koivunen) and Dwayne Zet (Magnus Djuse) complete the seven-strong field.

The last final tickets will be distributed in `Försök 3` (3rd race/13.45 hrs/208,000 SKr./1640 m). Usain Töll (Christoffer Eriksson) and Vitruvio (Alessandro Gocciadoro) ran well enough in fourth and fifth in the Copenhagen Cup (Group 1) to decide the victory among themselves here. From The Mine (Mats Djuse) has the form of his life and appears to be just as fit for the final as Floris Baldwin (Erik Adielsson), who is the same age. Global Withdrawl (Santtu Raitala) and Beartime (Carl Jepson) have the advantage due to their favourable starting numbers. Upper Face (Adrian Kolgjini) can be wide on a good day.

The Harper Hanovers Lopp (12th race/18.10/2,030,000 SKr./3140 m) has the highest value. The stayer race will be started from the ribbons as usual. Diable de Vauvert (Gabriele Gelormini), who was successful in the Prix de Paris (Group 1), should also cope with the maximum allowance. Moni Viking (Björn Goop), second in Stayerlopp of Örebro, he won the Harper Hanovers Lopp two years ago in world record time, and Digital Dominance (Mats Djuse), Selected News (Magnus Djuse) and Fenix Brick (Claes Sjöström), who came in behind, as well as Piemonte (Joakim Lövgren), running for German interests, will not make it easy for the Frenchman.

Usain Lobell to open against Cresus di Poggio.

Paris-Vincennes, Friday 27 May: It`s full sail today at Vincennes, where the evening card begins with the two main races. In the introductory Prix Caecilia (1st race/18.58/70,000 Euro/2700m), the Paul Hagoort-trained Usain Lobell (Robin Bakker) faces 15 rivals. The four-year-old, who was considered unbeatable in the Derby but was eliminated early due to a mistake, currently won the preliminary race for the Konung Gustav Pokal in Solvalla, but had no real chance in the final. The task will not be easy again, because Cresus di Poggio (Jean-Michel Bazire) is an opponent of calibre. Four wins in a row speak for the Bazire protégé. Most recently, he won an `A` race here against, among others, If I Tell You (Gabriele Gelormini), Iron Meslois (Pierre Belloche), Caio Titus Bond (Mathieu Mottier), Cocis Mp (Christophe Martens) and Imagine Darling (Etienne Dubois), who were clearly behind.

In the subsequent Prix du Crepuscule (2nd race/19.33 h/90,000 Euro/2100 m), the path to victory also leads through the Bazire stable. The champion himself steers Elie de Beaufour, who should be back to his old self after two strokes. Rebella Matters (Christophe Martens) and Feydeau Seven (Nicolas Bazire), who last finished ahead of the eight-year-old, are second choice this time. The biggest danger comes from Ampia Mede Sm (Franck Nivard), who recently disappointed in the Prix des Ducs de Normandie (Group 2) when finishing sixth behind Elvis deu Vallon (David Thomain), among others, but has already been able to put today`s opponents in their place several times.

Seasonal debut of Addeybb

Sandown, Thursday 26 May: The second Group 3 race of today`s event at Sandown appeals to the older horses at middle distance in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes (4th race/6.25pm/£80,000/2000m).

Mostahdaf (Jim Crowley) made a winning seasonal debut here in the Gordon Richards Stakes (Group 3) against just two rivals. Challenging the Gosden protector is multi-millionaire Addeybb (Tom Marquand). It remains to be seen whether the William Haggas-trained eight-year-old will be at a hundred straight away on his comeback. Bay Bridge (Ryan Moore), who finished last season with four consecutive wins, is also contesting his first race. Lord Glitters (Daniel Tudhope), Dubai Future (Pat Cosgrave) and Passion And Glory (Dougie Costello) are boosted by their performances at Meydan but are only considered outsiders.

Derby test of Lavello in the Prix Hocquart

Longchamp, Thursday, 26 May: Two decisions at Group 2 level will be made today at the Nobel track in Longchamp.

The Derby will be contested in the Prix Hocquart (5th race/18.56/130,000 Euro/2200 m), in which the Bavarian Classic winner Lavello (Andrasch Starke) from the stable of Markus Klug is one of five participants. The Zarak son will be joined by the current winners L`Astronome (Christophe Soumillon), Selwan (Stephane Pasquier) and Galaxie Gold (Ioritz Mendizabal) as well as Garachico (Gerald Mosse), who finished third in Group 3 in the Prix Noailles here.

The stayer class will be addressed in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (8th race/20.45 h/130,000 Euro/3100 m). Here the result of the Prix de Barbeville (Group 3) will be put to the test. The Good Man (Theo Bachelot) won safely here on 1 May ahead of Bubble Smart (Gerald Mosse), who had to stretch out against Joie de Soir (Maxime Guyon) for third. Call The Wind (Christophe Soumillon) remained fourth ahead of Skazino (Mickael Barzalona), who has great sympathy as defending champion. Love Child (Olivier Peslier) pleased here at List level and, like Esope (Stephane Pasquier) who last showed up in September on this course in the Prix de Lutece (Group 3), should be noted. Irish St Leger winner Search For A Song (Chris Hayes) from Dermot Weld`s in-form stable can beat them all on her third start of the season.

Badener Meile the top event at the start of the Spring Meeting

Baden-Baden, Thursday, 26 May: A year ago, the Spring Meeting in Baden-Baden was cancelled due to the change of operator, but now the three great days in May at the Iffezheim racecourse are getting underway. Already on the opening Thursday, the fans can look forward to a great programme with nine races between 1.30 pm and 6.15 pm.

The big attraction is the 44th Kronimus Badener Meile (Group II, 70,000 Euros, 1,600 m), the summit meeting of the best 1,600-metre horses. This definitely includes Mythico (R. Piechulek), who recently prevailed at Group III level in Düsseldorf. Sea Of Marengo (M. Pecheur) from the Netherlands was also close behind in third place. The favourite role could go to Novemba (B. Murzabayev), as she was even the classic winner. Dangerous is the mightily improved Parol (A. de Vries). Best Lightning (M. Seidl) also has enough class.

Promising mares compete in the Prize of the Baden-Baden Hotel & Catering Industry (Listed race, 25,000 Euros, 2,200 m). Sasakia (J.-L. Guillochon) brings strong recommendations from France. Her strongest opponent could be Accola (M. Pecheur). In the Equalisation I over 2,000 metres, Siluto (A. Sanna) could celebrate the third victory in a row.

30,000 Euros (with a jackpot of 5,000 Euros) are offered as a guaranteed payout in the 5th race (Equalisation III, 1,800 metres), 11,111 Euros in the 9th race (Equalisation IV, 1,400 metres).

Earl Simon with highest allowance in `GNT`

Le Croise-Laroche, Wednesday 25 May: A balanced line-up is in place today at Le Croise-Laroche for the fifth leg of the Grand National du Trot racing series (race 1/13.50/€90,000/2800m). Trainer Jean-Michel Bazire sends three horses into the Group 3 match and takes the driving reins himself with Farrell Seven, who is owned by himself.

Two wins in a row speak in favour of the Redeo-Josselyn son, albeit in smaller races. Fulton (Jean-Charles Piton), who comes into his own better under saddle, and Dorgos de Guez (Guillermo Horrach-Vidal), who is handicapped with a double allowance, are among the outsiders. In the middle band, Hanna des Molles (Alexandre Abrivard), who finished an excellent second behind Cleangame in the last `GNT` stage ahead of Freyja du Pont (Nicolas Bazire), Django du Bocage (Pierre-Yves Verva) and Eire d`Helios (Francois Lagadeuc), takes off. Earl Simon (Franck Ouvrie) stands out with three Belgian wins, but whether it will be enough for last year`s Elitloppet finalist and winner of the Prix des Ducs de Normandie (Group 2) with maximum allowance to go all the way remains to be seen. El Greco Bello (Mathieu Mottier) hit the ground too hard in Vincennes. From the basic mark, the eight-year-old should come into his own again.

Amazing Grace and Alaskasonne in the Prix Corrida

Saint-Cloud, Tuesday, 24 May: Eight races are on the programme today in Saint-Cloud. The Prix Corrida (5th race/16.10 h/130,000 Euro/2100 m), which belongs to Group 2, gathers six mares at the start, two of them compete for German interests.

Markus Klug celebrated a great success in the Italian Derby only two days ago and now the successful coach is trying to score another big point with Alaskasonne (Andrasch Starke). The four-year-old announced herself as second in the Grand Prix Aufgalopp (Listed race) in Düsseldorf. Last year in the Prize of Diana (Group 1) she finished sixth ahead of Amazing Grace (Olivier Peslier), for whom Waldemar Hickst is responsible. Currently she ran in the Prix Allez France (Group 3) and surprised in third place behind Burgarita (Mickael Barzalona) and ahead of Rumi (Gerald Mosse). The latter won the Prix de la Nonette (Group 2), the Fabre mare finished a very good fourth in the Prix Vermeille (Group 1). Sweet Lady (Ioritz Mendizabal) celebrated her greatest success here in the Prix de Flore (Group 3). Coeur Macen (Christophe Soumillon) recently won a Listed race in Lyon.

Sangria Pellini in the Breeders Crown qualifier

Halmstad, Monday 23 May: Four heats for the Swedish Breeders Crown will take place tonight in Halmstad, where in the Breeders Crown Fyraariga Ston (9th race/21.15 pm/238,500 SKr./2140 m) the Michael Nimczyk-prepared Sangria Pellini will try to get a final ticket. The mare has won four races in Sweden this year. Her last triumph here was eleven days ago over the short track as the top favourite.

The Chocolatier daughter has a lot of opponents in her way. Readly`s Dream (Peter Untersteiner) will find a large following as track winner of the STL Diamantstoet over Cheri Cheri Lady (Kevin Oscarsson) and Al`s Boozy Suzy (Peter Ingves), among others. Glorius Rain (Johan Untersteiner) did not fully convince in Solvalla when finishing fourth, but ended clearly ahead of Cheri Cheri Lady and Carroty (Torbjörn Jansson), who won three in a row in the spring. Red Lady Express (Björn Goop) stands out by class, but the E3 Final winner has not yet made an appearance in two appearances this year. Nova Mahiron (Thomas Mahiron) pleased in Jägersro with an easy win over the favourite.

Group 1 Day in Auteuil

Auteuil, Sunday, 22 May: Great steeplechase sport is on offer today in Auteuil. In the first classic, 16 horses will meet in the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (4th race/16.00 h/820,000 Euro/6000 m). Sel Jem (Johnny Charron) is in top form, winning the Prix Troytown (Group 3) and the Prix Murat (Group 2) this year. In his latest defeat in the Prix Ingre (Group 3) against Feu Follet (Baptiste Le Clerc) he nevertheless convinced with a good performance. Niko Has (Theo Chevillard) is riding high due to his list triumph against Enjeu d`Arthel (Charlie Deutsch) and Gex (James Reveley) also pleases as a current winner. Dream Wish (Jeremy de Silva), Happy Monarch (Angelo Zuliani) and Glorice (Lucas Zuliani) were in the picture behind Sel Jem in the Prix Murat. Trainer Willie Mullins is in with three chances. Al Boum Photo (Paul Townend), Franco de Port (Daniel Mullins) and Burrows Saint (Rachael Blackmore) are to be noted despite mixed form. Also travelling from Ireland is Screaming Colours (Connor Orr), fourth in the Irish Grand National.

The Prix Ferdinand Dufaure (6th race/17.15/320,000 Euro/4400 m) is aimed at four-year-old hunter horses. La Manigance`s (Theo Chevillard) victory in the Prix Jean Stern (Group 2) over Latino des Isles (Pierre Dubourg) will be put to the test. The latter had to admit defeat for the first time this year, having pinned the Prix Fleuret (Group 3) against Primco (Felix des Giles) and Saint Paris (Florent Bayle) and the Prix Duc d`Anjou (Group 3) against Tonguetted (James Reveley) to his banner here. In Love (Kevin Nabat) received high praise from the trade press for her running in a `Classe 2`.

Guineas Time in Cologne!

Cologne, Sunday, 22 May: The wait is over, on Sunday you can look forward to the first classical test in 2022. Because the 37th Mehl-Mülhens Race - German 2,000 Guineas (Group II, 153,000 Euros, 1,600 m) at the Cologne-Weidenpesch racecourse will keep the fans of the sport in suspense.

Perhaps, for once, a mare will enter the winners` list, because the mare from Karlshof, Mylady (A. Starke), already beat some of her current opponents in the Dr. Busch Memorial and still has a spotless white waistcoat. At that time Schwarzer Peter (A. Helfenbein) finished just behind her and is therefore another horse of Markus Klug with a very good chance. Rocchigiani (B. Murzabayev) had no chance there, but he also had to cope with the disadvantage of the year`s debut. Like Georgios (S. Vogt), who came third in Krefeld, and Fire Of The Sun (R. Piechulek), the group winner is one of Peter Schiergen`s three hopes. Speaking of three - three Englishmen will also do the honours. The never-before-conquered Maljoom (St. Donohoe) seems to be the first choice over The Wizard Of Eye (J. Egan) and Mr McCann (J. Doyle). Playing in the trifecta could be worthwhile as there is €12,500 in the "pot" here.

Between 11:20 am and 3:35 pm, nine tests await you. Races 1 to 5 will also be broadcast to France. 10,000 euros (including a 2,000 euro jackpot) will be paid out in the quadruple bet of the 3rd race (winless horses, 2,200 m). 20,000 euros (including a 6,000 euro jackpot) will be offered in the 8th race (Equalisation IV, 2,200 m).

Guineas Festival at the Curragh

Curragh, Friday 20 May: The Guineas Festival at the Curragh begins today with an eight-race card around the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes (3rd race/6.25pm/60,000 euros/2010m). Four of the eight three-year-olds saddle Aidan and Joseph O`Brien.

Hannibal Barca (Shane Crosse) has left Brian Meehan`s quarters and is trying to build on last year`s good performances. He finished fourth in the Futurity Trophy Stakes (Group 1) on his last start. Seisai (Declan McDonogh), who comes from the same stable, was a pleasing second at Gowran Park just over a fortnight ago. Anchorage (Ryan Moore) showed a good start last year, but like his training companion Sussex (Wayne Lordan), has not yet made an appearance at the higher level. Boundless Ocean (Kevin Manning) is having an easier time of it after his unsuccessful performance in the English 2000 Guineas and is highly rated by the trade press. Global Energy (Gary Carroll), Manbehindthemoney (Ronan Whelan) and Lyrical Poetry (Ben Coen) have already won in smaller tests this year.

Hanover: Extensive evening programme with Equalisation II

Hanover, Friday, 20 May: It will be a long, exciting weekend in the German Turf. Because already on Friday the programme starts with an evening race day in Hanover. The schedule includes ten competitions between 4 and 8.30 pm. The starting fields are huge.

A 1,750-metre Equalisation II is the linchpin. Worth seeing were the recent successes of Rajguru (L. Wolff), Nastaria (S. Byrne), Dormio (A. v. d. Troost) and Jazzmatazz (W. Panov). 10,000 euros will be paid out in the four-way bet of the 6th race (Equalisation III, 1,400 m). With 15 candidates, there could be high odds. Wild Vegas (W. Panov) and The Feathered Nest (S. Byrne), both fresh winners, are two of the possible set horses.

Revenge in the Prix Guillaume de Bellaigue

Paris-Vincennes, Friday 20 May: There is another lucrative winning opportunity for older saddle trotters today at Vincennes in the Prix Guillaume de Bellaigue (4th race/20.50/90,000 Euro/2700m). First contender for victory is Clegs des Champs (David Thomain), although he recently lost out to Fire Cracker (Anthony Barrier) in the Prix Theophile Lallouet (Group 2).

Before that, in the Prix Henri Desmontils (Group 3), the ten-year-old threw all his class into the scale and defeated Fire Cracker as well as Carly (Mathieu Mottier), Chalimar de Guez (Jean-Yann Ricart) and Freeman de Houelle (Eric Raffin). The latter is still well remembered for his Group 1 success in the Prix de I`Ile de France over Etoile de Bruyere (Adrien Lamy), among others. Edition Gema (Gaelle Godard) was seen not far behind Clegs des Champs on 9 April and should no longer be underestimated.

Ten mares in Prix Finlande

Longchamp, Thursday, May 19: Eight races are on the program today in Longchamp. The Prix Finlande (2nd race/17.16 p.m./55,000 euros/1800 m), which belongs to the list class, is aimed at three-year-old mares.

Andre Fabre is present with two participants. Raclette (Olivier Peslier) will try to correct her disappointing run in the Prix de la Grotte (Group 3). Mascaret (Mickael Barzalona) will again challenge Yukata (Cristian Demuro), who won here in a `Classe 1` just ahead of her. Nadette (Theo Bachelot) surprised in her latest outing before Raclette and now registers chances of winning. Jouza (Clement Lecoeuvre) and Zaracampa (Aurelien Lemaitre) won currently but are now hitting it harder. Katoucha (Christophe Soumillon) and Bahasa (Maxime Guyon) played no part in the Prix la Camargo (Listed race). The Brandt mare then ran very well in second. Bahasa finished clear behind Everest Rose (Gerald Mosse) in Toulouse, also at list level, who was a close second for third. Peshmerga (Ioritz Mendizabal) surprised in Chantilly.

Group 3 meeting in Vincennes

Paris-Vincennes, Wednesday 18 May: The first Group 3 race of today`s event at Vincennes is aimed at seven-year-old and older European horses. In the Prix du Gatinais (1st race/13.50/90.000 Euro/2850 m) the way to victory leads over Diablo de Caponet (Alexandre Abrivard) who won the Prix Aletheia (Course A). Decoloration (Gabriele Gelormini) will give him nothing. The mare last challenged the Italian serial winner Ampia Mede Sm in the Prix du Treport (Course A) and brought her to the brink of defeat. Victor Ferm (Christophe Martens) also cut a good figure not far back. Eleven days ago, he finished fifth in a `B` race behind Fine Colline (Matthieu Abrivard), who is one of the closest favourites along with the strong-running but unsafe Epsom d`Herfraie (Eric Raffin).

The Prix du Perreux (5th race/16.10pm/90,000 Euro/2700m) is a yearling comparison between five and six-year-old EU horses. In the winter meeting, Goeland d`Haufor (Charles Julien Bigeon) won a similar match and also ran not badly after a short break in the Prix d`Aubusson (Course C) as fifth ahead of Armour As (Nicolas Bazire). The latter pleased in the Prix Bettina (Course D) in second place ahead of Alcide Roc (Matthieu Abrivard). Hades de Vandel (Robin Bakker) took a break since finishing third in the Prix de Mirande (Group 1) in January. The Hagoort protégé is expected back fully prepared. Haribo du Loisir (Leo Abrivard) hit it too hard at Group 2 level, today`s task seems more suitable. M.T. Oscar (Adrien Lamy) should play a supporting role if he runs faultlessly.

Graffard in with a chance in Prix Texanita

Chantilly, Monday 16 May: The merry-go-round of big races for Derby age horses continues to spin today at Chantilly, where the Prix Texanita (4th race/15.52/80,000 Euro/1200m) is in the spotlight.

The last time the semi-classic was held was two years ago. Wooded emerged victorious and later Francis-Henri Graffard`s protégé won the Prix de l`Abbaye (Group 1) in Longchamp. Following in his footsteps from the same quarter could be the current Maiden winner Haziym (Christophe Soumillon), but his training companion Faro de San Juan (Hugo Journiac) is also in contention for the top places after his recent `Classe 2` success. Before Dawn (Mickael Barzalona) and Copie (Maxime Guyon) have already shown usefulness this year, both are to be considered with a favourable brand. Le Cadeau (Olivier Peslier) was in contention for the win here in the Prix Sigy (Group 3) and Feel Your Power (Cristian Demuro) also finished not far from the fastest in fourth. Kingentleman (Gregory Benoist) went away empty-handed again in the same match, having already failed to pick up a premium in the Prix Djebel (Group 3) and the Prix Montenica (List race). Ebro River (Jamie Spencer) finished in the middle of the field in the Abernant Stakes (Group 3). The Palmer stallion`s most valuable victory was in the Phoenix Stakes (Group 1) last year.

Guineas Decisions in Longchamp

Longchamp, Sunday 15 May: The French 1000 and 2000 Guineas will be decided today at the posh Longchamp track.

In the mares` Poule d`Essai des Pouliches (4th race/15.15/500,000 pounds/1600 m), Rosacea`s (Theo Bachelot) victory in the Prix de la Grotte (Group 3) speaks in favour of the Stephane Wattel-trained three-year-old, although the losing Daisy Maisy (Gregory Benoist), Mangoustine (Gerald Mosse) and Acer Alley (Christophe Soumillon) also appear to have chances. The final tally could equally include Toy (Ryan Moore), who travelled from Ireland and was recently superior in Cork. Cachet (James Doyle) fought his way to victory in the English 1000 Guineas and is now reaching for the double. Mqse de Sevigne (Mickael Barzalona) was in a class of his own in the Prix Vanteaux (Group 3). Jumbly (Hollie Doyle) pleased in Newbury as Group 3 runner-up to Heat oft he Moment (Jim Crowley). Sicilian Defence (Ioritz Mendizabal) and Sea Of Ash (Olivier Peslier) did nothing wrong in their preparation. The Rouget representatives Osmose (Cristian Demuro) and Zelda (Coralie Pacaut) are among the outsiders.

The Poule d`Essai des Poulains (5th race/15.55/600.000 Euro/1600 m) is filled with 16 stallions. Charlie Appleby and Godolphin are well placed with the Breeders Cup turf winner Modern Games (William Buick). No worse rated are Lassaut (Cristian Demuro) and Tribalist (Mickael Barzalona), first in a `Classe 1` here, with Jean-Claude Rouget and Andre Fabre responsible respectively. Rouget has another hot iron in the fire with Welwal (Christophe Soumillon), who won here in the Prix de Fontainebleau (Group 3). Making Moovies (Alexandre Gavilan), Texas (Clément Lecoeuvre) and Ancient Rome (Tom Marquand) were in the picture behind. The latter placed twice at classic level last year, as did Bayside Boy (Olivier Peslier). Claymore (Adam Kirby) will be interesting with his place of honour in the Craven Stakes (Group 3).

100,000 Euro Showdown in the Oleander Race

Hoppegarten, Sunday, 15 May: It is the first group race of 2022 at the Parkbahn in Berlin-Hoppegarten, and what a race it is: In the Comer Group International 51st Oleander Race (Group II, 100,000 Euros, 3,200 m) the local stayer king will be sought.

Of course, the field of eleven Nurmis is once again a tough one. Nubius (B. Murzabayev) and Sir Polski (M. Cadeddu) have clearly announced themselves. Diamantis (M. Seidl) was also very attractive here. Loft (R.Piechulek) from Ittlingen deserved a success on this stage. The places of honour in two Group III races were quite respectable. The two Irishmen Bradesco (J. Egan) and Guild (J. Bojko) must have improved quite a bit. Here, the trifecta bet is worthwhile, because 11,111 Euros will be paid out.

Nine races are scheduled between 2 pm and 6:15 pm. The 1,600-metre equaliser II could be won by Lacento (J. Bojko) or Alpinius (A. Best). The four-race bet offers a guaranteed payout of 11,111 Euros each in the 4th race (Equalisation III, 2,000 m) and in the 9th race (Equalisation IV, 1,600 m).

Baaeed in the Lockinge Stakes

Newbury, Saturday 14 May: The Lockinge Stakes (4th race/16.20/350,000 pounds/1609m) takes centre stage at Newbury Racecourse today. The mile classic offers Baaeed (Jim Crowley), unbeaten in six starts so far, the start of his second season.

The Haggas protégé`s last victory came in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1) over Palace Pier, who won the Lockinge Stakes last year. The four-year-old will be challenged by Mother Earth (Ryan Moore), who made a winning seasonal debut in the Park Express Stakes (Group 3). Among her most valuable victories is the one in the English 1000 Guineas over Alcohol Free (Rob Hornby), who was later in a class of her own in the Sussex Stakes (Group 1). Real World, who runs for Godolphin, is also a pronounced mile specialist. He has already won at Meydan this year and seamlessly followed up last season`s run of four. Chindit (Pat Dobbs), currently superior in the Doncaster Mile (List race), leads the group of outsiders.

Hippo Festival in Caen

Caen, Saturday, 14 May: Great sport is on offer today at the summer track in Caen. In addition to two Group 2 races for saddle trotters and a Group 3 race with four-year-old horses, the Prix Ducs de Normandie (3rd race/15.15/150,000 euros/2450 m) stands out.

Cleangame (Jean-Michel Bazire) returned to winning ways with a strong victory in the Grand National du Trot (Group 3) despite allowance and will be tested this time by Etonnant (Anthony Barrier) and Ampia Mede Sm (Franck Nivard). The latter defeated the Bazire charge in the Prix du Bois de Vincennes (Group 3), but had a ribbon advantage then. Gu d`Heripre (Jean-Philippe Monclin) and Rebella Matters (Christophe Martens) were pleasing behind in third and fifth. Etonnant found form again after a bit of a dry spell during the winter meeting. He took honours in the Grand Prix de Paris (Group 1) and the Prix de l`Atlantique (Group 1). He won the Grand Critérium de Vitesse (Group 1) against his constant opponent Vivid Wise As after a fight.

Henkel Stutenpreis with trend-setting character!

Düsseldorf, Saturday, 14 May: There are only four weeks left until the first classic mare race, the 1,000 Guineas in Düsseldorf (12 June). The time of the qualifying races has long since arrived, and so there is also an important test coming up on Saturday with the Henkel Mares` Prize (Listed race, 22,500 Euros, 1,600 m) on the Grafenberg course.

The favourite could be Wild Gloria (A., Starke), trained by Markus Klug for Gestüt Röttgen, who won easily in Krefeld and represents the successful team Starke/Markus Klug. But also her stable mate Desposita (M. Pecheur) was pleasing recently. Toskana Belle (A. Lemaitre) was very pleasing in France. Peter Schiergen provides almost half of the field, with Villefranche (B. Murzabayev) being the stable jockey`s choice over Dishina (R. Piechulek) and Goldana (S. Vogt). However, both were already behind Run For Me (A. Pietsch).

The 2,200-metre Equaliser II is another highlight of the nine races between 13:30 and 17:45. Fellow (R. Piechulek) is one of several horses in form. We trust him with further improvement.
10,000 Euros are on the line for the four-horse bet of the 8th race (Equalisation IV, 2,200 m). Here, Smaragd (R. Piechulek) and Koebes (B. Murzabayev) are two potential horses.

Comeback of Stradivarius

York, Friday 13 May: The Dante Festival at York enters its third round today with the Yorkshire Cup (4th race/16.35/175,000 pounds/2787m) taking centre stage. Five horses will contest the Group 2 test.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained Stradivarius (Frankie Dettori) is tipped as the favourite. The eight-year-old could make history, because after two Cup victories he would be the winningest horse if successful. To do so, he has to be better than Search For A Song (Chris Hayes), who currently tested at List level in Navan and finished a good second. Last year, the six-year-old won the Loughbrown Stakes (Group 3) and achieved numerous placings at the highest level. Tashkhan (Ben Robinson) ran in the handicap here twelve months ago. In the Long Distance Cup (Group 2), the Ellison protégé finished second to Stradivarius. Max Vega (Rob Hornby) is recommended by his fresh success in the Finest Surprise Stakes (Group 3). Thunderous (Franny Norton) could not do anything behind him in sixth place.

Three-year-olds put to the test

Paris-Vincennes, Friday, 13 May: The 2019 crop is under order today in Vincennes in two Group 2 tests separated by sex.

Among the stallions in the Prix Paul Karle (2nd race/19.33/120.000 Euro/2700 m), Just A Gigolo (Franck Nivard) makes his comeback. He last ran here in February, winning the Critérium des Jeunes (Group 1) as expected against fourth and fifth-placed Joyner Sport (David Thomain) and Jag Stryck (Matthieu Abrivard), among others. The latter was recently in the province at the expiry and lost after fight Javanais Delo (Louis Baudron). Jaguar Marancourt (Jean-Philippe Monclin) showed he belongs to the top of the vintage with his success in the Prix Penthesilea (Group 3) over Jakartas des Pres (Eric Raffin), Jaguar Wit (Tony Le Beller) and Javanais Delo.

There is a slightly bigger crowd in the Prix Masina mares` division (4th race/20.50 h/120,000 Euro/2700 m). Jazzy Perrine (Eric Raffin) knew how to please in her performance in the Critérium des Jeunes, even in defeat. But she was in no danger for second place against the surprising Joke (Gabriele Gelormini). Her opponents include Just Love You (Alexandre Abrivard) and Jamaica Turbo (Francois Lagadeuc), who are fighting for victory in the Prix Chatillon (group 3), and Junon (David Thomain) and Justine Vive (Anthony Barrier), who are not far behind. Jet Set Bond (Jean-Michel Bazire), who slackened somewhat in the winter after good placings, also belongs in all considerations in the hands of the champion.

Old Eagle, Dato and Mendocino to kick things off

Longchamp, Thursday 12 May: Opening today`s seven-race card at Longchamp is the Group 3 Prix d`Hedouville (1st race/17.16pm/80,000 Euros/2400m).

Three of the six participants start for German interests. Waldemar Hickst saddles the Derby runner-up Alter Adler (Cristian Demuro), who had also taken the place of honour in the Premio Jockey Club (Group 1) in Rome. Sascha Smrczek is responsible for Dato (Bayarsaikhan Ganbat), who is currently winning the Carl-Jespers-Preis, and Sarah Steinberg is with Mendocino (Rene Piechulek), who finished fourth in the Prix Lord Seymour (Listed race) here on his seasonal debut. The German trio will have to fear in particular Mutabahi (Olivier Peslier), who triumphed at List level in Saint-Cloud, Mr de Pourceaugnac (Hugo Besnier) and Bubble Gift (Gerald Mosse). The latter finished eighth in his last start in the `Arc de Triomphe`.

Derby Test in the Dante Stakes

York, Thursday 12 May: The Festival at York continues today with a seven-race card. The Dante Stakes (4th race/16.35pm/175,000 pounds/2063m) is the second Group 2 race of the day and is aimed at horses of Derby vintage.

Desert Crown (Richard Kingscote), from Sir Michael Stoute`s quarters, is highly rated after winning his only appearance to date as a two-year-old at Nottingham and meeting all expectations. Magisterial (Frankie Dettori) is also highly rated. The Gosden protégé recently won at Leicester and recommended himself for bigger tasks. El Bodegon (Daniel Muscutt), on the other hand, is already a classic winner. With his triumph in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud, he reached the peak of his career for the time being. Bluegrass (Ryan Moore) was somewhat in the picture in the Ballysax Stakes (Group 3) when he finished fourth. He is just as likely to surprise as Royal Patronage (Jason Hart), who did not finish higher than eighth in the 2000 Guineas. Masekela (Jason Watson) deserves a mention, as do this year`s winners White Wolf (Daniel Tudhope), Kingmax (Rossa Ryan) and Dark Moon Rising (Kevin Stott).

Starting signal for the Dante Festival

York, Wednesday, 11 May: The Dante Festival takes place over three days in York. The first highlight today is the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes (3rd race/16.00/140,000 pounds/1207 m).

Dragon Symbol (David Egan) competes under new management. Switched from Archie Watson to Roger Varian, the four-year-old is looking to build on his strong performances from last year. His best performances include a couple of wins, honours in the King George Stakes (Group 2), the July Cup/Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) and third here in the Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1) behind Emaraaty Ana (Andrea Atzeni), who finished second and later fourth in the Breeders` Cup Sprint (Group 1). Minzaal (Jim Crowley) pleased in his last start in the Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) when third ahead of Vadream (Daniel Tudhorpe) and Highfield Princess (Jason Hart), among others. Happy Romance (Sean Levey), who lost out to Emaraaty Ana in Haydock`s Sprint Cup, has added considerably to her tally with placings in the desert this year. Garrus (Ryan Moore) narrowly missed out on victory in the Abernant Stakes (Group 3). Rohaan (William Buick) won three in a row a year ago.

The Musidora Stakes (4th race/16.35pm/125,000 pounds/2063m) is a pointer for the upcoming Oaks. A year on from Snowfall, Aidan O`Brien could strike with the Galway-winning The Algarve (Ryan Moore). The seasonal debutant will be up against Emily Upjohn (Frankie Dettori) and Life Of Dreams (William Buick), who have already shown up this year, with John and Thady Gosden and Charlie Appleby responsible respectively. Luna Dorada (Rob Hornby) and Ching Shih (Jim Crowley) won their first races two-year-olds, they are among the outsiders according to the English bookmakers.

New duel between Dreamflight and Mister Saint Paul

Chantilly, Tuesday, 10 May: A Group 3 test for three-year-old stallions will be held today in Chantilly with the Prix de Guiche (4th race/15.29 h/80,000 Euro/1800 m). Four of the seven participants contested the Prix la Force (Group 3) in Longchamp.

In a leggy battle for victory, the great outsider Mister Saint Paul (Theo Bachelot) kept the upper hand against Dreamflight (Olivier Peslier), finishing one length ahead of Valmer Magic (Marie Velon). Machete (Sylvain Ruis) had no better options in fifth. Thus, the result from the Prix Omnium II (Listed race) on 19 March was completely turned upside down. At that time, Dreamflight won narrowly against Valmer Magic and Mister Saint Paul only remained in fourth place. Before that, Machte won the Prix Maurice Caillault (Listed race) against Implementation (Maxime Guyon). The latter last tried his hand at Newcastle, where he finished fifth on the list. Jean-Claude Rouget saddled Vadeni (Christophe Soumillon) and Kotari (Coralie Pacaut), two horses with good chances, but who have not yet won this year.

Modern News hard to beat at Windsor

Windsor, Monday 9 May: A seven-race programme is on the agenda at Windsor today. The centrepiece of the event is the Windsor Stakes (4th race/19.40/43,000 pounds/1640m).

With only four horses, the Listed test is well-filled. Modern News (William Buick), trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, cannot avoid being the favourite. He won a handicap at Newbury on his last start and returned to winning ways after being unbeaten on three consecutive occasions last year. Bell Rock (David Probert) is recommended by fourth in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Group 3). Some four lengths back, Catch Twentytwo (Adam Kirby) disappointed in last. It was the first start on the island for the four-year-old formerly running in South Africa. Tempus (Hollie Doyle) finished second in a Listed race this year. In his most recent appearance in the All-Weather Mile, he did not finish beyond midfield.

Derby Trial in Leopardstown

Leopardstown, Saturday, 8 May: Three Group 3 races in a row mark the highlights at Leopardstown today.

Three-year-old fillies contest the Cornelscourt Stakes (5th race/5.05pm/50,000 Euro/1609m). Agartha (Declan McDonogh) knew how to please on her seasonal debut here in the 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes (Group 3) even in defeat and should win. Panama Red (Colin Keane) ran about five lengths back when sixth not wrong, she could be further this time. History (Ryan Moore) starts the season on the back of three strong performances last year and is expected to be well in front.

In the Derby Trial Stakes (6th race/17.35pm/70,000 Euro/2010m) Aidan O`Brien`s Stone Age (Ryan Moore) tries to follow up his Maiden win at Navan. A narrow winner here in the Champions Juvenile Stakes (Group 2) against the O`Brien charge, Atomic Jones (Colin Keane) will be an unpleasant opponent. Duke De Sessa (Chris Hayes), who came third in the Ballysax Stakes (Group 3), and French Claim (W. Lee), who was superiorly ahead in Cork against Great Max (Leigh Roche), among others, are also conceivable winners.

The Amethyst Stakes (7th race/18.05 h/50,000 Euro/1609 m) is aimed at three-year-olds and older horses. Real Appeal (Shane Foley), who has been successful twice at Group level on this course and was last unplaced in the Breeders` Cup Mile (Group 1), has first chances. The youngest competitor in the field is Ivy League (Ryan Moore). The Galileo son started the season this year and has already scored two wins. Georgeville (Colin Keane) could be further along this time after his unsuccessful performance in the Alleged Stakes (Group 3).

Prix Greffulhe und Prix du Muguet in Saint-Cloud

Saint-Cloud, Saturday, May 8: The first Group 2 race this afternoon at Saint Cloud is aimed at the Derby age group.

In the Prix Greffulhe (2nd race/14.33pm/130,000 euros/2100m), eyes will be primarily on the Andre Fabre-trained Agave (Olivier Peslier), unbeaten in three starts. The winner of the Prix Penelope (Group 3) will face Sir Bob Parker (Cristian Demuro) and Mirabad (Christophe Soumillon), who battled to victory in a `Classe 2` at Chantilly. Maximus (Maxime Guyon) was defeated honorably in the Prix Noailles (Group 3) and offers himself as a winner.

The older horses will compete in the Prix du Muguet (5th race/16:25/130,000 euros/1600 m). Duhail (Olivier Peslier), Pao Alto (Maxime Guyon) and Sibila Spain (Aurelien Lemaitre) knew how to please here in the Prix Edmond Blanc (Group 3) behind the winning The Revenant and are promisingly in the match. The Dilawar (Christophe Soumillon) and Mythico (Cristian Demuro), who finished in midfield in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein (Group 2), are other horses with the best chances. The strike result of Hurricane Dream (Theo Bachelot) in the Prix d`Harcourt (Group 2) comes under scrutiny.

Tough test for the ladies in the Schwarzgold race

Cologne, Sunday, 08 May: This Sunday, the racecourse in Cologne will once again present a top highlight and "warm-up" for the 1,000 Guineas, the Karin Baroness von Ullmann-Schwarzgold race (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,600 m).

The line-up of this race for three-year-old horse ladies, in which there is 10,000 euros to be won in the triple bet, could hardly be better. Mountaha (A. Starke) was successful in 2021 and is Markus Klug`s stable jockey of choice. Quarantini (A. de Vries) could also end up far ahead after the impression of the Düsseldorf victory. But they will meet strong opponents who already performed strongly in last year`s Winter Queen, like Rondina (J. Mitchell), Barina (B. Murzabayev) or Lacuna (A. Sanna). From France comes the fresh winner Chaussons Roses (S. Planque). Marco Casamento, the rider of La Estrellita, has just returned to Germany from Qatar.

The four-horse bet with a guaranteed payout of 12,500 Euros will be offered in the 4th race (Equalisation IV, 1,850 m) and with 10,000 Euros in the 7th race (Equalisation IV, 1,600 m).

Five in the Huxley Stakes

Chester, Friday 6 May: On the final day of the May Festival at Chester, the Huxley Stakes (3rd race/15.40/140,000 pounds/2076m) marks the main event. Only five horses could be secured for the Group 2 test, yet there should be no lack of excitement.

Megallan (Frankie Dettori), who lost honourably in the Earl of Sefton Stakes (Group 2), is seen as the winner, but the twelfth-placed French in the Derby has a tough opponent ahead of him in Al Aasy (Jim Crowley). The Coronation Cup runner-up is making his first start of the season and could still lack fitness. Solid Stone (Ryan Moore) failed to finish higher than tenth in Riyadh in February but won both his last two starts before the break at Group 3 level. Majestic Dawn (Rob Hornby) also made a very good impression when finishing second in the List at the end of the season in October. Certain Lad (Ben Curtis) should still need that start after over a year and a half out.

Prix Romati with last year`s winner

Compiegne, Thursday 5 May: Seven horses will contest today`s Group 3 Prix Romati (6th race/14.42pm/135,000 Euros/4100m) in Compiegne, leading over the chasing jumps. La Danza (Romain Julliot) grants revenge to Hacienda (Felix de Giles), Gran Diose (James Reveley) and Geelong Sport (A. Renard), who last lost in the Prix Journaliste Group 3).

Whether the exact order remains depends on the course of the race and Grasil (Gaetan Masure). The gelding, trained by Francois Nicolle, won the match last year and was strongly placed several times at further starts. Follow Me Soldier (Gianni Siaffa), who is by Soldier Hollow, and Kolina Has (Angelo Zuliani) have already won on this course this year and are not unthinkable in the betting.

Albaflora in the Ormonde Stakes

Chester, Thursday 5 May: The May Festival at Chester continues today with seven races. The Ormonde Stakes (4th race/16.10pm/110,000 pounds/2692m) at Group 3 level takes centre stage.

Albaflora (Rossa Ryan) could be the winner. Trained by Ralph Beckett, the mare won at List level on her seasonal debut at Ascot a year ago and went on to finish several strong. Significant among these were classic honours in the Yorkshire Oaks and the Champion Fillies & Mares. Among her main opponents is Believe In Love (Andrea Atzeni), who recently finished fifth in the Bavarian Grand Prix (Group 1). The five-year-old probably achieved her best performance last year as second in the Prix de Royallieu (Group 1). Hamish (Tom Marquand), who ran appealingly to Trueshan and Stradivarius in the Long Distance Cup (Group 2), and Alounak (David Probert), who finished ahead of Hamish on the all-weather track at Kempton last time out, are other contenders with good chances. Invite (John Egan) and Thunderous (Franny Norton) could be further along at the second start of the year.

Starting signal for the May Festival

Chester, Wednesday, 4 May: The next Festival takes place today in Chester. First highlight is the Chester Vase Stakes (4th race/16.10pm/110,000 pounds/2472m). Five horses of Derby vintage will compete at Group 3 level.

The winning decision should be between New London (William Buick) and Changingoftheguard (Ryan Moore). Charlie Appleby saddled the former for Godolphin. In two starts, the three-year-old has not yet had to tolerate an opponent in front of him. Aidan O`Brien is responsible for the challenger. In Dundalk the stallion by Galileo won superiorly and announced himself for bigger tasks. Michael Bell`s Dillian (David Egan) starts the season. He made his first career start already acquainted with Coroebus, who won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. Berkshire Rebel (David Probert) finished third and last in a field of three on his comeback. Savvy Victory (Tom Marquand) won in strong style at Pontefract.

Marianafoot makes a comeback

Chantilly, Tuesday 3 May: Three Listed races will be the focus of today`s event in Chantilly. Derby age group and older horses will be addressed.

The three-year-old stallions will contest the Prix de Suresnes (4th race/15.35/55.000 Euro/2000 m). Jean-Claude Rouget and Christophe Ferland each have two participants. The former saddles the favourite with Al Hakeem (Cristian Demuro). On 14 March, the Siyouni son won in strong style. His stable mate Hauran (Coralie Pacaut) has already been successful on the Riviera this year. Yoozuna (Maxime Guyon) gave his visiting card in Saint-Cloud. Touristic (Ronan Thomas) could not convince at list level recently. Mirsky (Olivier Peslier) and Zarakhan (Alexandre Gavilan) are recommended by their recent successes Lordrecord (Mickael Barzalona) was beaten only one length by Zarakhan.

Nine mares are under order in the Prix des Lilas (5th race/16.10 pm/55,000 Euro/1600 m). Jean-Claude Rouget saddled Ataared (Cristian Demuro), another horse with good chances. The third on the list will meet the fresh Maiden winner Piz Gloria (Stephane Pasquier), who is just as much a favourite as the unbeaten Missyouni (Aurelien Lemaitre). Anterselva (Gerald Mosse) and Situveaux (Maxime Guyon) ran together in a `Classe 1` and did very well behind the top three. Singforthemoment (Olivier Peslier) has already been successful at List level. Pennine Hills (Mickael Barzalona) makes her French debut, announcing in England and Ireland.

The Prix Servanne (7th race/17.20/52,000 euros/1200m) is the target for Marianafoot (Gerald Mosse), whose last victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1) was the last so far. At the start of the season in a `Classe 2` during the Riviera meeting, he did not finish higher than third behind the winning King Gold (Thomas Trullier ). The Reynier protégé`s priority to watch out for is Egot (Mickael Barzalona), who narrowly came home against Live (Maxime Guyon) in the Prix Cor de Chasse (Listed race) in Fontainebleau. Midlife Crisis (Olivier Peslier) and Stormbringer (Tony PIccone) were reasonably in the picture in fifth and seventh.

New duel between Layfayette and High Definition

Curragh, Monday, 2 May: A number of higher-value races will be staged at the Curragh today.

Aimed at four-year-olds and older horses, the Mooresbridge Stakes (6th race/5.05pm/120,000 euros/5.05pm). Last year`s winner was Broome from Aidan O`Brien`s quarters, who will be hoping for High Definition (Ryan Moore) this time. He failed to live up to expectations in last year`s Irish Derby and English St Leger, but performed very well in his current appearance in the Alleged Stakes (Group 3) when second to Layfayette (Chris Hayes). For the winning protégé of Noel Meade it was the second success of the year. Already in Naas he won at list level ahead of Licence (Colin Keane) and Bear Story (Ronan Whelan). The latter finished third again in the Alleged Stakes behind Layfayette and High Definition and ahead of Gear Up (Shane Crosse). In that match, Visualisation (Declan McDonogh) could do nothing.

In the Athasi Stakes (5th race/16.30 h/67,500 Euro/1410 m) mares fight at Group 3 level. Yesterday`s winner of the Prix Ganay, Joseph O`Brien, once again has a horse with a lot of chances in Twilight Spinner (Shane Crosse). The four-year-old has Cigamia (W. Lee) in particular to beat, who recently showed an approach when fifth in the 1000 Guineas Trial. SH Boom (Colin Keane), third in the Gladness Stakes (Group 3), will also attract attention, as will Mise Le Meas (Ben Coen), runner-up at Gowran Park.

14 mares in the 1000 Guineas

Newmarket, Sunday, May 1: The fillies make their grand entrance today at the Rowley Mile in the 1000 Guineas (5th race/16.40pm/500,000 pounds/1609m). Aidan O`Brien has two hot irons in the fire through Tenebrism (Ryan Moore) and Tuesday (Frankie Dettori). The former capped her career to date with victory in the Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) over Sandrine (David Probert), while her stablemate currently won in Naas in the style of a better horse. The O`Brien fillies will be challenged by Discoveries (Shane Foley), who scored her most valuable triumph in the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 2). Malavath (Christophe Soumillon) and Zellie (Tom Marquand) currently made their mark in the Prix Imprudence (Group 3) in the first two places. The former ran in last year`s Breeders Cup (Group 1) and pleased when second well ahead of Mise En Scene (Cieren Fallon), who was a good fourth behind Prosperous Voyage (Rob Hornby) in the Fillies Mile (Group 1) here. Wild Beauty (William Buick), Cachet (James Doyle) and Juncture (Colin Keane) made their mark this year with victories at a higher level.

Mare Australis like last year?

Longchamp, Sunday, May 1: With six horses is today in Longchamp the Prix Ganay (6th race/16.25 clock/300,000 euros/2100 m). The colors of the Schlenderhan stud are represented by Mare Australis (Olivier Peslier), who won the match last year. Currently rehearsing in the Prix d`Harcourt (Group 2), the stallion prepared by Andre Fabre drew off brilliantly close behind Skalleti (Maxime Guyon), who also came out on top against the German twelve months ago, and Sealiway (Mickael Barzalona). Skalleti started the season in the Exbury (Group 3) and was beaten by Pretty Tiger (Sylvain Ruis). The Brandt protégé had already won the Grand Prix de la Riviera Côte d`Azur (Listed race) in Cagnes-sur-Mer before that. The winningest competitor in the field is Joseph O`Brien`s States of Rest (Shane Crosse). With victories in the Saratoga Derby (USA) and the Cox Plate (Australia), the Starspangledbanner son stands with an account balance of around 2.4 million euros. Smile Makers (Hugo Journiac) is regarded as a reliable place money collector, but does not come beyond outsider chances in this exquisite match.

Spectacular start to the season in Munich!

Munich, Sunday, 01 May: The 2022 racing year will get off to a spectacular start at the Munich-Riem racecourse, as the Bavarian Classic (Group III, 55,000 Euros, 2,000 m) is one of the most important local preliminary tests for the Blue Riband, which will be held in Hamburg this year on 3 July.

It will be interesting to see who will be in the running for the top event. The match seems to be very open, because quite a few candidates still promise a lot of potential for improvement. Markus Klug is well prepared with four candidates, whereby So Moonstruck (A. Starke) will certainly enjoy a lot of confidence. Andreas Wöhler`s Maraseem (E. Pedroza) is also dangerous as an impressive track winner. In addition, Antinango (M. Seidl), Lotterbov (K. Clijmans) and Sammarco (B. Murzabayev) were victorious in their respective last starts. Lavello (A. de Vries) and Dapango (R. Piechulek) ran well in the Ratibor race.

Nine races will be run in Riem between 11:20 am and 3:50 pm, races 1 to 4 are also part of the PMU card in France. In the Equaliser II over 2,000 metres, Siluto (M. Cadeddu) and Western Soldier (B. Murzabayev) bring fresh winning form.

The four-way bet with a guaranteed payout of 10,000 euros is offered in the 7th race (Maiden race, 1,600 metres). Here you should pay special attention to Emirate`s Flight (A. de Vries) and Vincero (P. Gibson).
