Baaeed in the Lockinge Stakes

Newbury, Saturday 14 May: The Lockinge Stakes (4th race/16.20/350,000 pounds/1609m) takes centre stage at Newbury Racecourse today. The mile classic offers Baaeed (Jim Crowley), unbeaten in six starts so far, the start of his second season.

The Haggas protégé`s last victory came in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1) over Palace Pier, who won the Lockinge Stakes last year. The four-year-old will be challenged by Mother Earth (Ryan Moore), who made a winning seasonal debut in the Park Express Stakes (Group 3). Among her most valuable victories is the one in the English 1000 Guineas over Alcohol Free (Rob Hornby), who was later in a class of her own in the Sussex Stakes (Group 1). Real World, who runs for Godolphin, is also a pronounced mile specialist. He has already won at Meydan this year and seamlessly followed up last season`s run of four. Chindit (Pat Dobbs), currently superior in the Doncaster Mile (List race), leads the group of outsiders.
