Five in the Huxley Stakes

Chester, Friday 6 May: On the final day of the May Festival at Chester, the Huxley Stakes (3rd race/15.40/140,000 pounds/2076m) marks the main event. Only five horses could be secured for the Group 2 test, yet there should be no lack of excitement.

Megallan (Frankie Dettori), who lost honourably in the Earl of Sefton Stakes (Group 2), is seen as the winner, but the twelfth-placed French in the Derby has a tough opponent ahead of him in Al Aasy (Jim Crowley). The Coronation Cup runner-up is making his first start of the season and could still lack fitness. Solid Stone (Ryan Moore) failed to finish higher than tenth in Riyadh in February but won both his last two starts before the break at Group 3 level. Majestic Dawn (Rob Hornby) also made a very good impression when finishing second in the List at the end of the season in October. Certain Lad (Ben Curtis) should still need that start after over a year and a half out.
