Starting signal for the May Festival

Chester, Wednesday, 4 May: The next Festival takes place today in Chester. First highlight is the Chester Vase Stakes (4th race/16.10pm/110,000 pounds/2472m). Five horses of Derby vintage will compete at Group 3 level.

The winning decision should be between New London (William Buick) and Changingoftheguard (Ryan Moore). Charlie Appleby saddled the former for Godolphin. In two starts, the three-year-old has not yet had to tolerate an opponent in front of him. Aidan O`Brien is responsible for the challenger. In Dundalk the stallion by Galileo won superiorly and announced himself for bigger tasks. Michael Bell`s Dillian (David Egan) starts the season. He made his first career start already acquainted with Coroebus, who won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. Berkshire Rebel (David Probert) finished third and last in a field of three on his comeback. Savvy Victory (Tom Marquand) won in strong style at Pontefract.
