Derby Trial in Leopardstown

Leopardstown, Saturday, 8 May: Three Group 3 races in a row mark the highlights at Leopardstown today.

Three-year-old fillies contest the Cornelscourt Stakes (5th race/5.05pm/50,000 Euro/1609m). Agartha (Declan McDonogh) knew how to please on her seasonal debut here in the 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes (Group 3) even in defeat and should win. Panama Red (Colin Keane) ran about five lengths back when sixth not wrong, she could be further this time. History (Ryan Moore) starts the season on the back of three strong performances last year and is expected to be well in front.

In the Derby Trial Stakes (6th race/17.35pm/70,000 Euro/2010m) Aidan O`Brien`s Stone Age (Ryan Moore) tries to follow up his Maiden win at Navan. A narrow winner here in the Champions Juvenile Stakes (Group 2) against the O`Brien charge, Atomic Jones (Colin Keane) will be an unpleasant opponent. Duke De Sessa (Chris Hayes), who came third in the Ballysax Stakes (Group 3), and French Claim (W. Lee), who was superiorly ahead in Cork against Great Max (Leigh Roche), among others, are also conceivable winners.

The Amethyst Stakes (7th race/18.05 h/50,000 Euro/1609 m) is aimed at three-year-olds and older horses. Real Appeal (Shane Foley), who has been successful twice at Group level on this course and was last unplaced in the Breeders` Cup Mile (Group 1), has first chances. The youngest competitor in the field is Ivy League (Ryan Moore). The Galileo son started the season this year and has already scored two wins. Georgeville (Colin Keane) could be further along this time after his unsuccessful performance in the Alleged Stakes (Group 3).
