New duel between Layfayette and High Definition

Curragh, Monday, 2 May: A number of higher-value races will be staged at the Curragh today.

Aimed at four-year-olds and older horses, the Mooresbridge Stakes (6th race/5.05pm/120,000 euros/5.05pm). Last year`s winner was Broome from Aidan O`Brien`s quarters, who will be hoping for High Definition (Ryan Moore) this time. He failed to live up to expectations in last year`s Irish Derby and English St Leger, but performed very well in his current appearance in the Alleged Stakes (Group 3) when second to Layfayette (Chris Hayes). For the winning protégé of Noel Meade it was the second success of the year. Already in Naas he won at list level ahead of Licence (Colin Keane) and Bear Story (Ronan Whelan). The latter finished third again in the Alleged Stakes behind Layfayette and High Definition and ahead of Gear Up (Shane Crosse). In that match, Visualisation (Declan McDonogh) could do nothing.

In the Athasi Stakes (5th race/16.30 h/67,500 Euro/1410 m) mares fight at Group 3 level. Yesterday`s winner of the Prix Ganay, Joseph O`Brien, once again has a horse with a lot of chances in Twilight Spinner (Shane Crosse). The four-year-old has Cigamia (W. Lee) in particular to beat, who recently showed an approach when fifth in the 1000 Guineas Trial. SH Boom (Colin Keane), third in the Gladness Stakes (Group 3), will also attract attention, as will Mise Le Meas (Ben Coen), runner-up at Gowran Park.
