Manjeer with chances in the Prix de la Porte Maillot

Longchamp, Thursday, 30 June: The Prix de la Porte Maillot (5th race/19.34 h/80,000 Euro/1400 m), which belongs to Group 3, is run over a short 1400 metres in Longchamp today. German hopes rest on Namos (Vladimir Panov), trained by Dominik Moser for Petra Stucke, but after his poor performance in his seasonal debut in the Prix Servanne (Listed race), the six-year-old is considered to have only little chance. The situation is completely different for Manjeer (Eddy Hardouin), whom Carina Fey trains for Natalie Steinmann. In that match, the gelding finished second ahead of the Moser protégé and Marianafoot (Mickael Barzalona). The latter marked one of his most valuable scores last year by winning the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1). Currently, he finished a good second in the Prix du Palais-Royal (Group 3). Wooturn (Maxime Guyon) and Spanish Intent (Clement Lecoeuvre) know only good performances and should be able to build on their top placings achieved here in May at List level. Breizh Eagle (Olivier Peslier) made his debut in Nantes in appealing style despite losing. Amedras (Stephane Pasquier) has already won two Quinté handicaps this year. Amilcar (Christophe Soumillon) was the Grand Handicap winner here more than a year ago.

Copsi with chances of winning in Vichy

Vichy, Wednesday, 29 June: With the Prix Pierre Coulon (8th race/17.55 h/48,000 Euro/2150 m), a further assessment test for the Grand Prix du Conseil Municipal, which will take place here shortly, will be decided today in Vichy. The `Course-B` test is aimed at horses in the prize category up to 400,000 euros. Denicheur du Vif, Copsi (Dominik Locqueneux) and Digne et Droit (Anthony Barrier) last met in the Prix de New York (Course A). The former won after a battle ahead of Copsi, who followed a length behind, and whose strong performance fully confirmed his third place in the Critérium de Vitesse de Basse-Normandie (Group 2) ahead of Mister F Daag, who excelled in the Elitloppet. Denicheur du Vif ran before that in Vincennes, where the nine-year-old finished a good third in the Prix du Rouergue (Course B) ahead of Dreamer de Chenu (Louis Baudouin). In the Prix Vichy Celestins (Course A) Eddy du Vivier (Cedric Terry) was third with allowance ahead of Drop des Duriez (Serge Peltier). Tjacko Zaz (Jean-Michel Bazire) did not come around the course smoothly in that match, but should play a supporting role this time in the hands of the multiple French champion. Farah des Caux (David Thomain) is sufficiently recommended as winner of the Prix Pythia (Course B).

Long Hamburger the highlight on the second day

Hamburg, Wednesday - 29 June - The Derby week in Hamburg also has a very interesting main event in store for Wednesday, the a my-bed.eu - Long Hamburger (Listed race, 22,500 Euros, 3,200 m). This long-distance highlight lasts over three minutes.

The third place of Diamantis (M. Seidl) in the Oleander race in Hoppegarten could almost be enough. However, Sea of Sands (B. Murzabayev) also comes from top tasks, in the Grand Prix of the Badische Wirtschaft the grapes hung too high. Arrival (M. Pecheur) recommended himself with the list victory in Cologne against Lubiane (A. Helfenbein).

With six races between 5:45 pm and 8:30 pm, the card is a little clearer than usual this time. Races 2 to 5 will also be shown in France. The quadruple bet is available in the 2nd race (Equalisation IV, 1,800 m) and in the 5th race (Equalisation IV, 2,400 m). 10,000 euros are guaranteed in each case.

Small Derby in Toulouse

Toulouse, Tuesday 28 June: The Derby du Languedoc (4th race/18.12h/55.000 Euro/2400m) will be decided today at the Hippodrome La Cépière in Toulouse. The list race is aimed at three-year-old horses and trainer Jean-Claude Rouget is saddling three of them. The immensely consistent Intuitu (Cristian Demuro) has never finished outside the trifecta and is once again expected to be in the front running. Balanovka (Jean-Bernard Eyquem) won her last race on this course, where the Prix Caravelle (Listed race) was also decided in April. The Lope de Vega daughter finished fifth ahead of Lovely Diamond (Guillaume Trolley de Prevaux) and Winema (Guillaume Guedj-Gay). The latter currently won a `Classe 2` in La Teste-de-Buch. Lovely Diamond finished second at List level in her native Spain over three weeks ago. Long Ridge Road (Coralie Pacaut) won her third race of the season in Marseille and three lengths back Night Endeavor (Antonio Orani) was third. She`s Cosmic (Sylvain Ruis) cut a decent figure in fifth in the Prix de Royaumont (Group 3). Zarakhan (Alexandre Gavilan) lost quite clearly in Chantilly, defeated Balanovka in a `Classe 1` before.

German victory in the Quinté Handicap?

Lyon, Monday, 27 June: At the Hippodrome in Lyon, after an eventful Sunday, the next event is immediately on the programme, which is introduced by the Prix Federation des Courses du Centre-Est (1st race/13.50 h/50.000 Euro/2000 m). Waldemar Hickst saddles Kabir (Eddy Hardouin) with maximum weight. After two starts of the season without success, this time the cash register could ring for the seven-year-old, who recently won in Longchamp. Carmen Bocskai is represented by Vents Contraires (Aurelien Lemaitre), who runs for the Galoppclub Iffezheim. At the neighbouring track in Lyon-La Soir, he finished a very good fifth in the `Classe 1` in April ahead of Morton (Gerald Mosse), since then the gelding has not been at the expiry. Vents Contraires will be helped by Santurin (Mickael Forest), who is coming off two strong Quinté handicaps. Hans Blume`s Salduro (Hugo Besnier) surprised in his most recent start by finishing third ahead of Santurin, who came away empty-handed in a dense pack 15 days ago, but stayed ahead of Mirage Reve (Ioritz Mendizabal) and Tonnencourt (Delphine Santiago). Michael Figge will travel from Munich with Jacksun (Clement Lecoeuvre). His third place in the Grand Handicap de Paris-Longchamp ahead of Go With The Wind (Stephane Pasquier), who had won here in May ahead of Electron Libre (Anthony Crastus), among others, is well remembered.

Quest The Moon with chances of winning

Compiegne, Saturday, 25 June: The fifth leg of the Défi du Galop racing series (5th race/16.20 h/60,000 Euro/2000 m), run as the Grand Prix de Compiegne, brings together nine horses at the start today at Listed level. A German success is on the horizon with Quest The Moon (Rene Piechulek), the Derby fourth-placed horse trained by Sarah Steinberg for the Salzburg stable. He currently showed his good form in Marseille, where he added a superior `Classe 1` to his flag against Shafaaf (Cristian Demuro). The Rouget protégé then won the fourth stage in Bordeaux after a fight against Caprice des Dieux (Stephane Pasquier), among others. The latter ran at the top last year, finishing second in the Prix Eugene Adam (Group 2). Salesman (Maxime Guyon) and Parchemin (Mickael Barzalona) were pleasing here three weeks ago behind a current Listed winner. Riocorvo (Gerald Mosse) is recommended as Grand Handicap winner from Longchamp.

Tuesday re-named for the Irish Derby

Curragh, Saturday, 25 June: The Irish Derby (5th race/16.45/1m Euro/2410m), with a manageable field of eight horses, will be decided at the Curragh today. A dominant role has always been played by trainer Aidan O`Brien in the past years, who announces his first chances with Tuesday (Ryan Moore). The English Oaks winner took the honours here in the 1000 Guineas, finishing third in the English equivalent. Her fiercest rival should be Westover (Colin Keane), who narrowly missed out on second place in the Epsom Derby after winning the Classic Trial (Group 3) at Sandown. Lionel (Jamie Spencer) prepared successfully for today`s task at Goodwood at List level and Hannibal Barca (Shane Crosse) here in the Gallinule Stakes (Group 3) ahead of Boundless Ocean (Kevin Manning). The first two are among the extended group of favourites. Piz Badile (Gavin Ryan) and Glory Daze (Ronan Whelan) should have learned their lesson after their unsuccessful performances in the English Derby. French Claim (W. Lee) ran decently in the Derby Trial (Group 3).

Diana Trial with trend-setting character

Düsseldorf, Saturday, June 25 - Düsseldorf still has tickets for the classic - in the Diana Trial (Listed race, 22,500 Euros, 2,100 m) on Saturday in Düsseldorf there is another chance to qualify for the Henkel - Prize of Diana in six weeks. It will be interesting to see who will be recommended for the 500,000 Euro highlight.

There are many possibilities here, such as the up-and-coming Maiden winners Narmada (W. Panov), Ad Astra (M. Casamento), Lively (M. Pecheur), Night Holy (S. Vogt) and Pfingstblüte (E. Pedroza). A jackpot of 3,121.21 euros makes the trifecta particularly interesting.

The Equalisation II leads over 2,100 metres. One of the horses in form is Smudo (A. v. d. Troost), but the Dutch rider Amaranto (L. Wolff) also has top chances, who fully substantiated his success.

10,000 Euros beckon in the four-horse bet of the 7th race (Equalisation III, 1,600 m). Quelinda (A. v. d. Troost) and Lion Hunter (M. Pecheur) offer themselves as "Steller". Seven races will be run between 2.30 pm and 5.45 pm.

Starting signal for the Irish Derby Festival

Curragh, Friday, 24 June: Three days of great sport are offered by the Irish Derby Festival at the Curragh. Today the Curragh Cup (4th race/19.43/120.000 Euro/2816 m) takes centre stage. Aidan O`Brien won the Group 2 test last year and is sending three horses into the race this time. The best chance is thought to be Wordsworth (Ryan Moore), who could wrap up a second hit of the season after a disappointing run at Ascot and third place here at Listed level. Temple Of Artemis (Seamie Heffernan) won a handicap and is equally among the contenders for victory, while Sussex (Wayne Lordan) will find it very difficult after a pale performance in the Gallinule Stakes (Group 3). Joseph O`Brien saddles Gear Up (Dylan Browne McMonagle) and Master Of Reality (Declan McDonogh), who are among the closest favourites. The former only changed quarters this season. The English Derby contender always cut a good figure in appearances in the King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) and the Bahrain Trophy (Group 3). Master Of Reality was no match for Wordsworth on his seasonal debut but kept Camorra (Colin Keane) safely at bay. The seven-year-old finished a strong second in the Curragh Cup two years ago. Sunchart (Andrew Slattery) and Manu Et Corde (Kevin Manning) are at least in contention for a minor placing.

Sprinters and steeplechasers in Chantilly

Chantilly, Thursday, June 23: Two Listed races for distance specialists are on the program today in Chantilly.

First, the sprinters are in demand in the Prix Hampton (5th race/19.00/52,000 euros/1000 m). Five of the ten participants ran in the Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3). Berneuil (Christophe Soumillon) and Suesa (Olivier Peslier) fared best behind the surprisingly victorious Ponntos. Both were fighting for second place and behind them it was also very close between Clarendon House (Raymond Dawson) and Live (Mickael Barzalona) for fourth place. Air de Valse (Ronan Thomas) came away empty-handed, but ended up close. The latter surprised in last year`s Prix de l`Abbaye Longchamp (Group 1) by finishing second to Suesa, who had previously won the King George Stakes (Group 1) at Goodwood.

Finally, the stayer will contest the Prix la Moskowa (8th race/20.50pm/52,000 euros/3000m). Joie de Soir (Maxime Guyon) ran placed without exception this year and is overdue for victory. In her most recent appearance in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (Group 2), the Fabre mare finished second to training companion Love Child (Olivier Peslier), who earlier in the day finished second to By My Side (Gregory Benoist) and Control Tower (Stephane Pasquier) in the Prix Gold River (Listed race). Bel Aristo (Cristian Demuro) was not convincing in his only start of the season so far, but is expected to be in the front group based on last year`s good performance. Tangut (Hugo Journiac) ran here in the Prix Right Royal (list race) behind Joie de Soir as fourth very strong.

Grand National du Trot in Toulouse

Toulouse, Wednesday 22 June: The seventh leg of the Grand National du Trot racing series (1st race/13.50/90,000 euros/2950m) today in Toulouse appeals to the class up to 461,000 euros in earnings. Charged with a simple allowance is Gangster du Wallon (Alexis Collette), who achieved his best result of the season when second in the Prix des Ducs de Normandie (Group 2). He did not penetrate in the Prix Chambon P (Group 2) and ended clearly back in last place. From the basic brand, Gently de Muze (Nicolas Bazire) announces first chances. The Perlando son won an `A` race in Vichy 15 days ago in a commanding manner ahead of Fresneaux (Christophe Martens), among others, who was in the picture in fifth place. Douglas du Pont (Eric Raffin) is in top form and should not disappoint in the hands of the champion. Fakir Merite (Franck Marty) and Heros de Fleur (Alexis Prat) were pleasing behind the winner here on 7 June. Eire d`Helios (Francois Lagadeuc) has already competed in five `GNT` stages this year and attracted attention with three third places.

Group 3 races in Auteuil

Auteuil, Wednesday 22 June: The obstacle stronghold in Auteuil is the venue for two Group 3 races today. The four- and five-year-old fillies will contest the Prix Christian de Tredern over hurdles (2nd race/12.50/120,000 Euro/3600 m). Despite maximum weight, Roberta Has (Angelo Zuliani), who showed up at List level in Compiegne, should be the winner. Astadame (Pierre Dubourg) had secured the place of honour six lengths back. She offers herself again for a top placing, which is also true for this year`s victorious Amazing Filly (Clement Lefebvre), Hôtesse du Chênet (Ludovic Philipperon) and Royale Margaux (Kevin Nabet).

The Prix la Perichole (5th race/14.42pm/135,000 euros/4400m), reserved for four-year-olds, will be run over the hunting track. Diamond Carl (Bertrand Lestrade) won superiorly against Mister Champdoux (Angelo Zuliani) and it is hard to believe in a reversal of form. Impressive (Nathalie Desoutter), who came second in the Prix Ferdinand Dufaure (Group 1), could intervene in the new duel. Sans Bruit (Kevin Nabet), who ran strongly in the Prix Jean Stern (Group 2), and Tonguetted (Baptiste Le Clerc), who followed a little further behind, are also possible front runners.

Schiergen duo to finish

Saint-Cloud, Tuesday 21 June: To conclude today`s nine-race card at Saint-Cloud, the Handicap d`Etè (9th race/20.15pm/50,000 euros/1600m) is up for decision. Peter Schiergen is represented twice here by Principe (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) and Quello (Sibylle Vogt), who is owned by Klaus Allofs and Gestüt Fährhof. The latter currently did not get beyond midfield in two similar assignments, but has given up weight and is in a more favourable position compared to El Manifico (Cristian Demuro) and L`Ienissei (Pierre Bazire), who finished ahead of him at Longchamp. Principe travels from Nantes with a fresh win and carries the top mark. Tornadic (Theo Bachelot) has two fresh wins to his name, which will now be put to the test in more challenging company. Marrakech Moon (Mickael Barzalona) easily defeated Tantpispoureux (Christophe Soumillon) in Chantilly, but a reversal of form is possible with the weight shift. The former also won in April ahead of Trobreizh (Fabrice Veron) and Sascha Smrczek`s Jack O`boy (Augustin Madamet), who finished a good second in Baden-Baden last time. At the same place, Darshano (Mickael Forest) from Carmen Bocskai`s quarters took a good fourth place.

In Crowd the horse to beat

Nantes, Monday, 20 June: The Hippodrome de Nantes starts into a new week with eight races. The highlight is the Grand Prix Anjou Bretagne (2nd race/12.30 pm/62.000 Euro/1600 m), which belongs to the list class.

In Crowd (Olivier Peslier) should be able to prevail in the eight-strong field. Fredie Head`s protégé recently corrected his Listed-level strike result at Longchamp and easily won his second race of the year by a length. First chances are also given to Axdavali (Gregory Benoist), although he blatantly disappointed Prix du Palais-Royal (Group 3). His previous good performances speak in his favour. Doctor Carl (Cristian Demuro), who has run mostly on the sand track this year, is a model of consistency and is once again expected to be in the front line. Susu`s Dimples (Mickael Barzalona) switched from the sand track to the grass track and promptly landed a win in a tough Quinté handicap, something Wildwood (Sebastien Maillot) also managed in March. Crohanne (Simon Planque) scored at an upmarket level last year. Kribi (Mathieu Androuin) sat out over a year after finishing fifth in the Prix Vanteaux (Group 3).

Fabre with strong quartet in Prix de Diane

Chantilly, Sunday, 19 June: 18 mares are under order today in the prestigious Prix de Diane (5th race/16.00/1 million Euro/2100 m). Four horses will be saddled by Andre Fabre, who won the race for the last time eleven years ago with Gestüt Ammerland`s Golden Lilac.

Agave (Oliver Peslier) and Place du Carrousel (Mickael Barzalona), runners-up in the Prix Greffulhe (Group 2) and Prix Saint Alary (Group 1) respectively, should be the strongest weapons, but Zellie (Tom Marquand), who finished fourth in the English 1000 Guineas (Group 1), and Babala (Maxime Guyon) are also thought to have chances. Nashwa (Hollie Doyle), from the Gosden quarters, drew off well in the Epsom Derby when third against the Stallions. Nadette (Theo Bachelot) defeated Yukata (Cristian Demuro) at List level, both are expected to improve. Times Square (Stephane Pasquier), Rosacea (Christophe Soumillon) and Daisy Maisy (Gregory Benoist) all made their mark in French 1000 Guineas behind the top two. Toy (Ryan Moore) had no opportunities in that match, but Aidan O`Brien is always to be counted on for a top finish.

Derby-Trial in Hannover

Hanover, Sunday, 19 June: Very good sport is on offer in Hanover today. Two of the nine races have list status. Ten three-year-olds can still jump on the Derby train in the Trial (6th race/16.15 h/22,500 Euro/2200 m). Angelino (Clement Lecoeuvre) certainly did not run as Henk Grewe had imagined in the Union race (Group 2). This time there should be more in it. Zacapo (Martin Seidl) from Andreas Suborics` quarters showed a clear improvement in the superior victory here, but had only been on a shorter track so far. Agneta (Vladimir Panov) is also the track winner. Melekan (Michael Cadeddu) could excel in Cologne. Waldadler (Eduardo Pedroza), Salvatore (Michal Abik) and Blue Lion (Leon Wolff) also attracted attention with victories.

The older sprint horses will be addressed in the Grand Prix of the Sparkasse (4th race/15.05 h/22,500 Euro/1300 m). Danelo (Eduardo Pedroza) announced himself emphatically as fourth in a similar Listed match and could celebrate his most valuable victory. Dhahabia (Clement Lecoeuvre), arriving from France, ran in the handicap last time and surprised in the front line. Together with Kindred Spirit (Hugo Journiac), who also comes from the neighbouring country, she should play a leading role. Zandjan (Michael Cadeddu) was very successful in Munich. Anno Mio (Lilli-Marie Engels) surprised last year, but cannot avoid the role of outsider. Buddy Bob (Thore Hammer-Hansen) and Artista (Vladimir Panov) also have little going for them.

Anything is possible in the Dortmund Grand Prix

Dortmund, Sunday, 19 June: The Group 3 Grand Prix of the Economy (5th race/15.55 h/1800 m) gathers ten horses at the start in Dortmund today. Georgios (Sibylle Vogt) from Peter Schiergen`s stable, who surprisingly came third in the Mehl-Mülhens race, is one of the closest favourites this time. The favourable weight also speaks in his favour.

Peace Warrior (Jozef Bojko), who returned from France with an honourable mention, also benefits from a low mark. In contrast, Mythico (Rene Piechulek) and Rubaiyat (Alexander Pietsch), who are fighting for victory in the Spring Mile (Group 3), have to carry the most lead. However, both failed to convince in further appearances. Parol (Adrie de Vries) is a model of reliability, which he clearly proved recently in the Baden Mile (Group 2) when finishing third ahead of Novemba, who ran strongly at Ascot. A tad better in that match was Zavaro (Miguel Lopez), who was soon to score a Group win. Sea Of Marengo (Maxim Pecheur) held his own behind the latter and finished well ahead of Mythico. The little tested Aguirre (Andrasch Starke) is not entered in such a test for nothing. Sahib`s Joy (Bayarsaikhan Ganbat) is last year`s runner-up ahead of Mythico.

Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes in focus

Ascot, Friday, 17 June: The Festival continues today at Ascot with seven races. The first classic is aimed at three-year-old horses over a short 1200 metres. In the Commonwealth Cup (2nd race/16.05pm/500,000 pounds) Perfect Power (Christophe Soumillon) finds himself with a solvable task after not being far from a better placing in the English 2000 Guineas. El Caballo (Clifford Lee) has yet to lose a race this year. Most recently he fought his way home against Flaming Rib (James Doyle) and Wings Of War (Adam Kirby). Tiber Flow (Tom Marquand) and Ehraz (Jim Crowley) put up a worthwhile fight for the win at List level.

The three-year-old fillies contest the Coronation Stakes (4th race/5.20pm/500,000 pounds) over the mile. After Inspiral`s (Frankie Dettori) victory in the Fillies Mile (Group 1) over Cachet (James Doyle) and Prosperous Voyage (Rob Hornby), everything points to another triumph for the Gosden mare, with the two underdogs also registering first chances thanks to their condition advantage. Cachet last ran in the French 1000 Guineas, losing by an extremely narrow margin to Mangoustine (Gerald Mosse), while she won the English equivalent ahead of Prosperous Voyage. Discoveries (Shane Foley) should go better this time than in Newmarket. Spendarella (William Buick) travels from the USA with strong form.

Saddle sizes in the Prix Paul Delanoe

Paris-Vincennes, Friday 17 June: Older saddle trotters will be the target of today`s Group 3 Prix Paul Delanoe (2nd race/19.50/€90,000/2175m) on the Plateau de Gravelle. A similar match was decided here recently with the Prix Guillaume de Bellaigue (Group 3) at long distance. Freeman de Houelle (Eric Raffin) did well to finish third, with Etoile de Bruyere (Adrien Lamy), Chalimar de Guez (Jean-Yann Ricart) and Carly (Mathieu Mottier) lining up behind. Earlier, in the Prix Roger Ledoyen (Group 3), Freeman de Houelle came in second behind the winning Georgica Gede (Damien Bonne) and ahead of Diamant de Treabat (Clement Frecelle). Caban Prior (Aurelien Desmarres) has been on break for over a year. By class he has all the chances, but he will still need this start.

Stradivarius again in the Gold Cup?

Ascot, Thursday, June 16: On the third day of the Royal Ascot Festival, the Gold Cup (4rd race/17.20/500,000 pounds/4010 m) stands out. The resilient Stradivarius (Frankie Dettori), from the stable of John & Thady Gosden, has won the fixture three times, but suffered a stinging defeat last year. In the first start of the season in the Yorkshire Cup (Group 2), he flashed his old class and came easily against Tashkhan (Ben Robinson), among others. His opponents include Trueshan (Hollie Doyle), who easily dispatched Stradivarius in the Prix du Cadran (Group 1), and the Aidan O`Brien-trained Kyprios (Ryan Moore), who recently won by a highly superior 14 lengths at Group level. Last year`s runner-up Princess Zoe (J. Sheridan) made a winning comeback in the Sagaro Stakes (Group 3). Mojo Star (Rossa Ryan) sold superbly when second in the English St. Leger (Group 1). Burning Victory (William Buick) ran over fences this year, but has also been successful on the flat course.

Strongly occupied anniversary prize in Cologne

Cologne, Thursday, June 16: Good sport comes from Cologne today, where eight races will be decided from 1.30 pm. The main event marks the Jubilee Prize (5th race/15.30/22,500 euros/2100 m), in which three mares take up the Listed battle against five stallions/geldings. Alaskasonne (Andrasch Starke) recently showed an excellent performance as fourth in the Prix Corrida, which counts as a Group 2 race. The four-year-old, trained by Markus Klug, will receive support from Accola (Maxim Pecheur), who could continue last year`s winning streak after four consecutive honors at the top level. Wiesentau (Jozef Bojko) bounced back from the break with a direct hit in Leipzig and is expected to be in the trifecta. Nubius (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) ran neatly in the Oleander race three lengths behind Loft, who was just coming on in the USA. The Schiergen protégé has every chance here. Swedish hopes rest on Moomba (Shane Karlsson), who recently finished second in the Ausgleich I in Baden Baden. Mooney Love (Rene Piechulek) has run in Italy so far, but first has to introduce himself in this country. Siluto (Alberto Sanna) disappointed far behind Moomba, before that he won twice in the Ausgleich II. Rock My Life (Sybille Vogt) did not show anything useful for quite some time.

The four-horse bet attracts with a guaranteed payout of 11,111 euros in the 2nd run to the Amateur Cup (7th race/16:30/5,150 euros/1850 m). Consistently placed Red Postman (Lize H. van Dieteren) and Baasha (Alina Meyer) are just two of many contenders for victory. Diamond Gold (Rens P. Verberkt), Best of Heaven (Anna-Lena Weidler) and Laytown (Luisa Stephanie Steudle) are also conceivable in front with her weight allowance.

Sassoon the tip of the day

Mannheim, Thursday, June 16: Seven races will take place today at the Waldrennbahn in Mannheim.

The `eye-catcher` of the day can be marveled at in fourth place (3.45 pm/3,000 euros/1900 m), an age-weight race for four-year-old and older horses. The talk is of Jean-Pierre Carvalhos Sassoon (Nicol Polli), who should not lose despite a long break. Derby contender and last run at Group 3 level in Baden-Baden, Soldier Hollow son has probably only one opponent to get out of the way with Kingdom Of Heaven (Amina Mathony), who has placed twice over sand this year.

Good horses are competing in the Equalizer III (5th race/16.15pm/6,000 Euros/1900m). Chipping Away (Shuichi Terachi) returned from Iffezheim with a good third place and is in line to win. Earl (Kevin Braye) won his last race on this maximum weight course. Together with Rum Tum Tugger (Anna van den Troost) and Moon Love (Nicol Polli) he is among the closest favorites.

A jackpot (2,775 euros) in the trifecta awaits in the 3rd race (3.15 pm/3,500 euros/2500 m). Golden April (Shuichi Terachi) should make it to the front despite a small form crisis. Bottleofsmoke (Claudia Fleißner) should also not be missing in any consideration, which also applies to Zambala (Anna van den Troost) and Shadow Star (Marie Gast).

Bay Bridge the favorite in the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes

Ascot, Wednesday, June 15: Great decisions also fall on the second day of the Royal Festival at Ascot. Sporting at the top is the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes (3rd race/16.40/1,057,500 pounds/2000 m). A year after Love from Aidan O`Brien`s quarters, Bay Bridge (Ryan Moore) tries to top the winners` list. His trainer Sir Michael Stoute just won the English Derby with Desert Crown and the successful coach seems to have a next superstar in his stable with the four-year-old who has won five times in seven starts. Currently, Bay Bridge won the Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) at Sandown. He is not in for a walk, however, as Shahryar (Cristian Demuro), most recently victorious in the Dubai Sheema (Group 1), is an equal opponent. A year ago, the stallion trained by Hideaki Fujiwara finished third in the Japan Cup (Group 1). State Of Rest (Shane Crosse) and Lord North (Frankie Dettori) met in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1). While the former battled for the win, the Gosden representative was only considered for fourth place. Grand Glory (Mickael Barzalona) has not yet lost a race this year and a top finish is not out of the question.

Start of the Royal Ascot Festival

Ascot, Tuesday, June 14: The Royal Ascot Festival starts today with a group fireworks display. It starts with the Queen Anne Stakes (1st race/15.30/580,000 pounds/1609 m). The classic has a clear favorite in William Haggas` Baaeed (Jim Crowley), who was so convincing in his recent victory in the Lockinge Stakes (Group 1) against Real World (Daniel Tudhope) and Chindit (Pat Dobbs) that anything other than another triumph would be a surprise.

The Coventry Stakes (2nd race/16.05/150,000 pounds/1200 m) is reserved for the youngest active yearling. Unbeaten in two and three starts respectively, Persian Force (Rossa Ryan) and Blackbeard (Ryan Moore) share the favorite role. Age Of Kings (Frankie Dettori) and Bradsell (Hollie Doyle) also haven`t gone wrong in their short careers so far.

The sprinters are in demand in the King`s Stand Stakes (3rd race/16.40pm/400,000 pounds/1000m). Here, all eyes will be on Nature Strip (James McDonald), who arrives from Australia and is the responsibility of Chris Waller. The multi-millionaire and winner of numerous Group 1 races will be challenged by last year`s Breeders` Cup Sprint winner Golden Pal (Irad Ortiz Jr.). Currently, the American won the Shakertown Stakes (Group 2). Twilight Calls (Ryan Moore) lost the Temple Stakes (Group 2) at Haydock only after a tough fight. He could foil the favorites in the reckoning.

In the St James`s Palace Stakes (4th race/17.20/400,000 pounds/1603m), Coroebus (William Buick), victorious in the English 2000 Guineas, strikes the next blow. The fiercest rival for the three-year-old trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin is identified as My Prospero (Tom Marquand), who currently has no rival to fear at Listed level. The previously unbeaten Maljoom (Cieren Fallon) faces a tough task but is expected to be in the front running.

Eight exciting races in Caen

Caen, Monday, June 13: The best class of the day comes to expire today in Caen right at the beginning in the Prix de Thury Harcourt (1st race/13.50 hrs/33,000 euros/2450 m). The winner is to be sought in the first band. Gaspard (David Thomain) was a good third here in a similar match despite allowance. The six-year-old stands more favorably in the lot this time and is in contention for the very front. Get Up des Plaines (Pierre Houel) performs well in the province. His last win was in the spring on this course in a handicap. Frozen Queen (Adrien Lamy), Gaz d`Occagnes (Anthony Barrier) and Gitane du Rib (Carine Hallais-Deroir) are all fresh winners and not to be excluded in any consideration. Garde a Vous (Yoann Lebourgeois) has two bull`s-eyes to his credit from Fougeres. Current stayed within his capabilities over grass and with allowance. Fiesta du Belver (Benjamin Rochard) sold himself magnificently in a `Course A` in third place, but needs to add 25 meters of effort.

Early kick-off on the Isar

Munich-Riem, Sunday, June 12: The second event of the season takes place today in Munich. Seven races will be held at 30/35-minute intervals starting at 11:20 am. The two introductory tests are reserved for the Derby age group.

For the opener (1st race/11.20/7,000 Euro/2000 m), Alaska Tiger (Vladimir Panov), who won here in the auction race, should play the leading role. Mofridge (Jozef Bojko), Aram (Leon Wolff) and Quo Volare (Shuichi Terachi) already showed approaches and are like the two Figge chances, Said (Esther Ruth Weißmeier) and Heshima (Michal Abik), not out of the world for the very front.

In the winless three-year-olds (2nd race/11.50am/7,000 Euro/1600m) it could be enough for Arina (Michal Abik) who ran well in Hoppegarten. Navaja (Esther Ruth Weißmeier) surprised in Baden-Baden and is just as due to win as Arasco (Leon Wolff), who arrived with much advance praise, and Karina`s Dream (Jozef Bojko), who recently finished just behind Navaja.

The sporting highlight will be decided in fifth place, an Equalizer II, (1:20 p.m./10,000 euros/2200 m). Smudo (Anna van den Troost) from the stable of Christian von der Recke sold himself magnificently in Düsseldorf as third and should not let the butter be taken off his bread. Atze (Michal Abik), who attracted attention with numerous wins last year, made a strong season debut in Hanover. Prince Oliver (Patrick Gibson) and Flying Rocket (Vladimir Panov) have plenty of class, but have the handicap of high weight.

Lord Charming in the La Coupe

Longchamp, Sunday, June 12: The La Coupe (6th race/16.25 h/80,000 Euro/2000 m), which belongs to Group 3, will be run at the same time as the German 1000 Guineas taking place in Düsseldorf. Annoying for trainer Peter Schiergen, who will probably only be able to follow the performance of Lord Charming (Cristian Demuro) on the sidelines. The Charm Spirit son last ran in Milan and was third in the picture. Among his fiercest rivals is Kertez (Maxime Guyon), unbeaten in three appearances this year, from the stable of Andre Fabre. Hurricane Dream (Theo Bachelot) met expectations in third in the Prix du Muguet (Group 2) after disappointing last in the Prix d`Harcourt (Group 2) behind Mr de Pourceaugnac (Mickael Barzalona), among others. The latter did not prevail in the Prix d`Hedouville (Group 3). Andreas Schütz` Monty (Olivier Peslier) narrowly missed victory in the Défi du Galop. Baby Rider (Gerald Mosse), who was at least in the `Arc de Triomphe` and finished fifth in the Grand Prix de Paris (Group 1), earned his money this year in smaller tasks. Investor (Christophe Soumillon) deserves a mention as a double winner.

Strong guests in the German 1000 Guineas

Düsseldorf, Sunday, June 12: Three-year-old mares make their grand entrance today in the 102nd German 1000 Guineas (6th race/16.25 p.m./125,000 Euro/1600 m). Eleven participants are competing for victory in the prestigious Group 2 test. Three of them travel from England and France respectively with the best chances. Fast Attack (Adrie de Vries) was convincing last year in the Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3). For her it is the first start this year. Jumbly (Kieran Shoemark) has already made two starts this year, but did not finish above midfield in the recent French 1000 Guineas at Longchamp. At the same place Txope (Aurelien Lemaitre) pleased as list second, before that she was fifth in the Prix Imprudence (Group 3) in the picture. The hosts will certainly not surrender without a fight and are holding their own headstrong. Mylady (Andrasch Starke), for whom Markus Klug is responsible, should run better this time than in the Mehl-Mülhens race (Group 1). Peter Schiergen has not saddled any favorites with Dishina (Maxim Pecheur), Goldana (Sibylle Vogt) and Villefranche (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev), but they can be expected to surprise at any time. Jean-Pierre Carvalho is holding his own with Nandina (Rene Piechulek) and Mythicara (Alexander Pietsch), who have already won this year. Henk Grewe`s Lacuna (Ioritz Mendizabal) and the Michael Figge-trained La Estrellita (Marco Casamento) announced themselves in the Black Gold race (Group 3).

Jozef Bojko back again

Krefeld, Saturday, June 11: A seven-race program takes place today on the oval at Krefeld. In the introductory Maiden race (1st race/14.00/3,500 Euro/1700 m) Andrasch Starke could strike with Shirazi. The successful jockey was still in the USA the day before with Gestüt Ittlingens Loft and contested the Gold Cup, which counts as Group 2.

In third place, Jozef Bojko is back in action after a lengthy injury break. His chance is called Russian Candy, who after a promising third place in Hanover is one of the closest favorites. The untested Dalina (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) from Ammerland Stud, Delia (Leon Wolff), who is leaving with a favorable mark, and Lina (Alexander Pietsch), who attracted attention when taking honors in Cologne, are other contenders with good chances.

The subsequent age-weight race (4th race/15.35/6,000 Euro/1300 m) could be decided by Schützenprinz (Adrie de Vries), who recently showed up in Mülheim, but Wellenbrecher (Andrasch Starke) and Run Form Me (Marco Casamento) are also speculating on the front places.

In the equalizer 3 (6th race/16:40/7,000 euros/2050 m), the path to victory leads through the immensely in-form Mister Wonderful (Miguel Lopez). Lady Charlotte (Leon Wolff) and Sovereign State (Sean Byrne) are favorably accommodated with their allowance riders and, like Petit Marin (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) and Dörthe (Marco Casamento), who are coming in with fresh wins, will not leave the field to the White protégé without a fight.

Comeback of Galius in the Prix Chambon P

Paris-Vincennes, Saturday 11 June: The best harness racing comes again today from Vincennes, where the Prix Chambon P (6th race/17.00/120,000 Euro/2850m) is framed by three other Group 2 tests.

Ampia Mede Sm (Eric Raffin) underlined her continuing top form in her latest win in the Prix du Crepuscule (Group 3), beating Elie de Beaufour (Jean-Michel Bazire) and Rebella Matters (Christophe Martens) into next place. The Bazire gelding celebrated his last success during the winter meeting over Feydeau Seven, who had won a `B` preliminary to the Prix d`Amérique with the French champion. Delia du Pommereux (David Thomain) is the winningest competitor in the field. She currently ran in the Paralympiatravet final and fell a little short of expectations in fourth. Galius (Yoann Lebourgeois) lost the `Amérique` after a heartbeat finish on the line. After finishing second in the Prix de Paris (Group 1), the Raimond protégé was given a break from which he returns today. Gangster du Wallon (Alexis Collette) surprised in the Prix des Ducs de Normandie (Group 2) ahead of Ampia Mede Sm. Gu d`Heripre (Jean-Philipp Monclin) always makes it into the betting. Dorgos de Guez (Guillermo Horrach Vidal) makes a rebuilding start.

Two 70,000s for the three-year-olds

Paris-Vincennes, Friday, 10 June: Tonight`s event on the Plateau de Gravelle will focus on two Group 3 tests for horses of the European three-year-old age group that have not yet won 75,000 euros.

The stallions will be tested in the Prix de Gien (5th race/21.17pm/70,000 Euro/2700m). Josh Power (Benjamin Rochard) did well to finish third in the Prix Kalmia (Group 2) ahead of the flawed yearling leader Just A Gigolo. He is targeting his second career win after winning the Prix Libussa (Course A) here against Jacomo des Bots (Mathieu Mottier). Jazzy Dancer (Eric Raffin) comes in as surprise winner of the Prix Atlas (Group 3) ahead of Joker des Molles (Louis Baudouin), Jasmin du Vallon (Adrien Lamy) and Jasmin Merite (Gabriele Gelormini) for the very front. Javanais Delo (Alexandre Abrivard) is conceivable in the betting judging by the good spring performances. Just For Lova (Antoine Lherete) and Justin Bold (Jean-Francois Senet), who is used to success, as well as Dingo (Edoardo Loccisano) and Domingo Bar (Anthony Barrier), who arrive from Italy with fresh winning form, are other horses with chances.

In the Prix d`Istres (6th race/21.44 pm/70,000 Euro/2700 m) it is the mares` turn. Jerusalem (Matthieu Abrivard) and Junon (David Thomain), who finished third and fourth in the Prix Masina (Group 2), are eligible for the trifecta. Four wins in a row speak for Janka Somolli (Gabriele Gelormini). Most recently, she defeated Java du Pommeau (Francois Lagadeuc) and Joueuse du Mirel (Franck Ouvrie), who were both two lengths behind, at `B` level. Diva Del Ronco (Mario Minopoli jr.) and Joyce Beauty (Sylvain Dieudonné) made no impact on the closer decision in midfield. Dea Sprint Bar (Adrien Lamy) and Desdemona Sage (Anthony Barrier) deserve a hint despite low win totals.

Five in the Ballycorus Stakes

Leopardstown, Thursday 9 June: Five horses will contest the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes (3rd race/19.15/50,000 Euro/1408m) at Leopardstown today. Last year`s winner Real Appeal (Shane Foley) later won the Boomerang Mile (Group 2) on the same course and even tried his hand in the Breeders` Cup (Group 1) in the USA at last year`s start, but came away empty-handed.

In the Amethyst Stakes (Group 3), the Sidestep son made his seasonal debut and finished a disappointing fifth behind the lightly-raced Pretreville (Ronan Whelan). For the latter it was already his fourth appearance of the year and his first full success. Dr Zempf (Colin Keane) won the 2000 Guineas Trial (list race) here but did not finish higher than fifth on another appearance at the Curragh. Straight Answer (Gary Carroll) was a good list runner-up at Navan. His recent strike result at Group 3 level should not be chalked up too harshly for the three-year-old. Thunder Moon (Declan McDonogh) had high hopes after winning the Phoenix Stakes (Group 1), which he could only fulfil in Deauville when second in the Prix Jean Prat (Group 1).

Hannes des Molles faultless this time?

Laval, Wednesday, 8 June: The sixth leg of the Grand National du Trot race series (1st race/13.50 h/90,000 Euro/2850 m) is up for decision today in Laval. After the surprising `out` of Hanna des Molles (Alexandre Abrivard) in the last `GNT` stage in Le Croise-Laroche, the five-year-old tries to make up for lost time.

Before that, `Hanna` proved her great class in Châteaubriant, where she finished second behind the superior Cleangame, ahead of Freyja du Pont (Nicolas Bazire). The latter was the beneficiary of Hanna des Molles` failure in Le Croise-Laroche and fought her way past Eire d`Helios (Francois Lagadeuc) and Fragonard Delo (Anthony Barrier) to take the silver medal. In Vincennes, a similar match was run in the Prix du Gatinais (Group 3), which Decoloration (Louis Baudouin) pinned to her banner ahead of Echo de Chanlecy (Tony Le Beller), Epsom d`Herfraie (Eric Raffin) and Flore de Janeiro (Franck Blandin), among others. The Baudouin mare, who is in good form, has to `go for it` with the maximum allowance this time, so there is nothing standing in the way of a reversal of form. El Grecco Bello (Gabriele Gelormini) can expect first chances from the basic brand. After two less fortunate starts, he could build on the victories achieved in March.

Amérique` second in Toulouse

Toulouse, Tuesday, 7 June: Well-kept harness racing is on offer today in Toulouse, where the Prix Toulouse Métropole-Dynavena Maisagri (4th race/18.30/53,000 Euro/2950 m) takes centre stage.

In this `Course Europeenne` for older horses, Looking Superb (Miodrag Pantic), who was only narrowly beaten in the Prix d`Amérique three years ago, will make his first start of the season in France. The glory days of the nine-year-old, who is now trained by Anders Lindqvist, are undoubtedly over and with allowance, the nine-year-old doesn`t have it easy anyway. Diego de Cahot (Alexandre Abrivard), who starts from the front, has a good chance of winning. In his most recent outing in Enghien at `B` level, the gelding narrowly missed out on full success, but remained well ahead of Temon Your Sm (Michaël-Jean Ruault), who surprisingly finished second here on 4 May ahead of Clyde Barrow (Cedric Terry) and Chini de l`Oison (Maxime Grasset). Fakir Merite (Franck Marty) is expected to be in the front running at the second start after the break and Fredo Griff (Patrice Gesret) can also take the win considering the favourable starting position.

Go Athletico with first chances

Saint-Cloud, Monday 6 June: An interesting nine-race programme is on offer at Saint-Cloud today. Round 24 hours after the victory of Vadeni in the French Derby, trainer Jean-Claude Rouget could strike again in the Prix Vatellor (5th race/16.25 h/27,000 Euro/1300 m).

With Fang (Cristian Demuro), the successful coach offers a fresh winner. However, the task will not be easy, because Go Athletico (Gerald Mosse), prepared by Andreas Schütz, showed his great class this year with two places of honour and is due to win. Mujbar (Maxime Guyon), who had a good run-in in France, also has good prospects. Winwood (Adrian Le Lay Martin) took a break after a good performance in February, the permission rider speaks for him. Sestilio Jet (Simon Planque) also has a favourable mark. Pamouschana (Theo Bachelot) makes her comeback. She pleased last year with placings at an upper level. Memory Dream (Tony Piccone) won his last race on this course.

Who will be the Derby favourite?

Cologne, Monday, 06 June: Whoever wins here is automatically a hot commodity for the race of the year: On Whit Monday, the possible Derby favourite will be sought in Cologne, in the 187th Sparkasse KölnBonn - Union race (Group II, 70,000 Euros, 2,200 m).

Sammarco (B. Murzabayev) and So Moonstruck (A. Starke), who started strongly late, or Maraseem (M. Cadeddu), who finished third between them, were very appealing in the Bavarian Classic and offer themselves for the final battle. Barely fully recognised are Angelino (A. Sanna) and Bemer (M. Seidl).

The highlight is embedded in a card of nine races between 2 and 6:25 pm. In the Weidenpescher Steher Cup (Listed race, 22,500 Euros, 3,000 m) Dolcetto (A. Sanna) should be well ahead after his great fight in the Oleander race.

Double offered is the quadruple bet. 15,000 Euros (with a jackpot of 3,894.28 Euros) are guaranteed in the 7th race (Equalisation IV, 1,850 m), 10,000 Euros are offered in the 3rd race (Equalisation III, 1,300 m).

Rouget force in the Prix du Jockey Club

Chantilly, Sunday, 5 June: After the English Derby, which was won yesterday at Epsom as expected by the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Desert Crown under Richard Kingscote, comes the Prix du Jockey Club (5th race/16.00/1.5 million Euro/2100 m), in which 15 horses are under order today.

Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget saddled four participants, of whom Al Hakeem (Cristian Demuro) and Vadeni (Christophe Soumillon), who won here, are rated highest. Lassaut (Mickael Barzalona) and Welwal (Jean-Bertrand Eyquem) ran decently in the French 2000 Guineas when fifth and sixth, but did not come close to Modern Games (William Buick), who was easily up for grabs. Fourth-placed Ancient Rome (Tom Marquand) also cut a good figure, having been classically placed last year. Onesto (Stephane Pasquier) comes into question as the surprise winner of the Prix Greffulhe (Group 2) for the very front. El Bodegon (Ioritz Mendizabal) defeated Stone Age, who ran disappointingly in the English Derby, in the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (Group 1). Vagalame (Maxime Guyon) was introduced to the Derby in smaller tasks. Aidan O`Brien should be noted with The Acropolis (Frankie Dettori) and Ivy League (Ryan Moore), who started in the 2000 Guineas. Trainer Andrew Balding caused a big surprise at Epsom with the giant outsider Hoo Ya Mal in second place, and now the Englishman will try Imperial Fighter (James Doyle).

The Derby is framed by three Group 2 tests, with the Grand Prix de Chantilly (4th race/15.20/130,000 Euro/2400 m) featuring the German hopefuls Mare Australis (Olivier Peslier), Mendocino (Rene Piechulek) and Soho (Patrick Gibson). Among their main rivals is Fenelon (Stephane Pasquier), unbeaten three times in a row.

The Prix de Sandringham (7th race/17.20/130,000 Euro/1600m) appeals to three-year-old fillies. Purplepay (Tom Marquand), who finished sixth in the Irish 1000 Guineas (Group 1), finds herself with a solvable task, but faces no walkover against Sicilian Defense (Ioritz Mendizabal), who also came up empty in the French equivalent.

The sprinters are in demand in the Prix du Gros-Chêne (9th race/18.30 h/130,000 Euro/1000 m). Saint Lawrence (James Doyle) brings a good placing from the Palace House Stakes (Group 3) and offers himself for victory as well as Brostaigh (Dylan McMonagle) who showed up in Naas and Berneuil (Christophe Soumillon) for whom the rank of honour in the Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3) speaks for.

Diana Trial with class mares in Hoppegarten

Hoppegarten, Sunday, 05 June: Whit Sunday is always a high holiday also in gallop racing. This time Hoppegarten is again in the spotlight, because the Diana Trial (Group III, 55,000 Euros, 2,000 m) is a "warm-up" for the Prize of Diana at the beginning of August. It will be interesting to see which three-year-old class mare will be recommended for the classic.

Toskana Belle (A. Sanna), who made a big impression at List level in Düsseldorf and was entered in the field by late entry, seems to be very dangerous, which also applies to Iraklia (B. Murzabayev), a track winner, among others. Well Disposed (M. Pecheur) and Wagnis (A. Starke) could continue the success series of trainer Markus Klug. The former defeated the subsequently impressive Nerik. Wagnis might have only failed against a strong competitor in Mülheim. Barina (S. Vogt) should improve soon.

The four-horse bet attracts twice - with 44,444 Euros guaranteed payout in the 8th race (Equalisation IV, 1,600 m) and 11,111 Euros guaranteed in the 10th race (Equalisation III, 2,000 m).

17 in the Epsom Derby

Epsom, Saturday 4 June: The English Derby winner will be decided from 17 contenders at Epsom Racecourse today. The £1.5 million classic is run over 2420 metres and will start at fifth (5.30pm).

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin won for the second time as a team last year through Adayar (2018) and the success story could continue today. Nations Pride (William Buick), Walk Of Stars (James Doyle) and Nahanni (Adam Kirby) are the names of the three hopefuls for the Royal Blues. The former is one of the favourites after his superior win over Hoo Ya Mal (David Probert) at List level in Newmarket. Sir Michael Stoute, who last took the Blue Riband to his stable twelve years ago with Workforce, saddles the favourite in the Dante Stakes (Group 2), Desert Crown (Richard Kingscote). Royal Patronage (Jason Hart) held up magnificently when clearly beaten for second. Aidan O`Brien is well remembered as a Derby `winner` in the recent past through Serpentine, Anthony Van Dyck and Wings of Eagles. Trying to follow in their footsteps is Stone Age (Ryan Moore), who showed not a hint of weakness in winning the Derby Trial (Group 3) over Glory Daze (Ronan Whelan) to remain unbeaten this year. Chester Vase (Group 3) winner Changingoftheguard (Wayne Lordan) and the day`s successful Star Of India (Seamie Heffernan) are also registering early chances for the Ballydoyle quarter. Piz Badile (Frankie Dettori) pinned the Ballysax Stakes (Group 3) to his banner and, like Westover (Rob Hornby) who ran strongly in the Classic Trial (Group 3), is being traded at three-figure odds.

Emily Upjohn the horse to beat in the Oaks

Epsom, Friday, June 3: The two-day Derby Festival begins today at Epsom with the Oaks (5th race/5.30pm/550,000 pounds/2420m) taking center stage. Highly traded is John and Thady Gosden`s Emily Upjohn (Frankie Dettori), who proved her great class in the Musidora Stakes (Group 3) and came out superior. Hardly rated lower is training companion Nashwa (Hollie Doyle), who played `cat and mouse` with her opponents in the Fillies Trial at Newbury. In the running are three mares owned by Aidan O`Brien. Tuesday (Ryan Moore) and Concert Hall (Seamie Heffernan) placed last in the Irish 1000 Guineas. The former was also ahead in the English equivalent. Thoughts Of June (Wayne Lordan) won at List level at Chester against Above The Curve, who was later ahead in the Prix Saint-Alary (Group 1) at Longchamp.

In the Coronation Cup (3rd race/16.10pm/445,000 pounds/2420m) Pyledriver (Frankie Dettori) tries to defend his title from last year. Most recently, the five-year-old finished fourth in the Dubai Sheema Classic (Group 1). At the same time, Manobo (William Buick) contested his last race in the Dubai Gold Cup (Group 2), where he finished a strong second. Together with High Definition (Ryan Moore), who was narrowly beaten in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1), he is among the closest favorites.

Vintage under the saddle

Paris-Vincennes, Friday, June 3: The saddle cracks are in focus today in Vincennes. In the five-year-old Prix Victor Cavey (3rd race/19.33/120,000 euros/2700m), Hirondelle du Rib (Jean Dersoir) should be the winner after her recent Group 2 honors ahead of Hilyrose d`Icelea (Mathieu Mottier), Happy and Lucky (Adrien Lamy), Hytte du Terroir (Leo Abrivard) and Hera de Banville (Benjamin Rochard). Eric Raffin, who is in over-form, will steer Hallix, who is competing again in her special discipline after two unsuccessful attempts in front of the sulky. Best remembered is her honorable mention in the Prix du President de la Republique (Group 1) two lengths behind the sovereign Hirondelle du Rib.

The one year younger `I` yearling is under order in the Prix Lavater (6th race/21.15pm/120,000 euros/2700m). Ici C`Est Paris (David Thomain) meets again Ines des Rioults (Florian Desmigneux), who made short work of the Allaire stallion in the Prix Henri Balliere (Group 2). Ideal Jibay (Jean Dersoir), who impressively won the Mauquenchy, could intervene in the new duel, but Indigo du Poret (Eric Raffin), who showed up in the Prix Louis Le Bourg (Group 2), is also a candidate for the front.

Ammerland opportunity in Longchamp

Longchamp, Thursday, June 2: With an eight-race program, another event takes place today in Longchamp. Among the better races is the Prix du Grand Palais (5th race/19.34h/35,000 euros/1850m), a yearling race for three-year-old horses in the `Classe 1` category. Fredy Head saddles Mirsky (Olivier Peslier), who was last placed third at list level, with first chances. The Francis-Henri Graffard trained Blue Boat (Christophe Soumillon), for whom two third places in similar tasks this season speak, is rated hardly worse. Safni (Mickael Barzalona) runs for the colors of the Ammerland stud. The protégé of Andre Fabre was particularly pleasing here in his most recent appearance as a good second ahead of Tigrr (Hugo Journiac), who improved further in his subsequent start. January Moon (Sylvain Ruis) could benefit from mare weight, while for My Baby Love (Cyrille Stefan) and Sogynt (Hugo Boutin) can not avoid the outsider role.

Comeback of Django Unchained

Saint-Cloud, Wednesday, 1 June: Nine races will take place today at the Hippodrome in Saint-Cloud. In the Prix Carteret (3rd race/15.00/18.000 Euro/2100 m), a `Classe 3` with four-year-olds and older horses, Henk Grewe will saddle Django Unchained (Tony Piccone), who is starting the season for the first time.

Exactly one year ago to the day, the Pastorius son competed in his last race in Strasbourg, where he fell short of expectations in fifth place. Django Unchained probably showed his best performance as a two-year-old in a 250,000 euro auction race at the `Arc` meeting where he finished second. The Natural (Maxime Guyon) and Ultra Cool (Coralie Pacaut) are two other seasonal debutants. With plenty of stamina in the tank, fresh winners Influx (Luca Carboni) and Future History (Clement Lecoeuvre) will attract plenty of attention. Panjaman (Aurelien Lemaitre) deserves a mention as last year`s Quinté winner ahead of Shamsabad (Mickael Barzalona). Inca Man (Marie Velon) was already close to victory in a sales race this year.
