Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes in focus

Ascot, Friday, 17 June: The Festival continues today at Ascot with seven races. The first classic is aimed at three-year-old horses over a short 1200 metres. In the Commonwealth Cup (2nd race/16.05pm/500,000 pounds) Perfect Power (Christophe Soumillon) finds himself with a solvable task after not being far from a better placing in the English 2000 Guineas. El Caballo (Clifford Lee) has yet to lose a race this year. Most recently he fought his way home against Flaming Rib (James Doyle) and Wings Of War (Adam Kirby). Tiber Flow (Tom Marquand) and Ehraz (Jim Crowley) put up a worthwhile fight for the win at List level.

The three-year-old fillies contest the Coronation Stakes (4th race/5.20pm/500,000 pounds) over the mile. After Inspiral`s (Frankie Dettori) victory in the Fillies Mile (Group 1) over Cachet (James Doyle) and Prosperous Voyage (Rob Hornby), everything points to another triumph for the Gosden mare, with the two underdogs also registering first chances thanks to their condition advantage. Cachet last ran in the French 1000 Guineas, losing by an extremely narrow margin to Mangoustine (Gerald Mosse), while she won the English equivalent ahead of Prosperous Voyage. Discoveries (Shane Foley) should go better this time than in Newmarket. Spendarella (William Buick) travels from the USA with strong form.
