the July Festival at Newmarket starts today with an excellent field for the featured Falmouth Stakes, a Group One event for fillies and mares over a mile at 16.10 CET. The Head family have a good record at Newmarket, and after Freddie won this race last year with the outstanding Goldikova, his sister Criquette now attempts to achieve a family double with Special Duty (Tom Queally). Special Duty has the unique distinction of being the only filly to win both the English and French 1,000 Guineas on an objection. At Newmarket it was on the disqualification of Queally´s mount, and the jockey gets the ride today as both the normal riders are injured. Special Duty was the top European 2yo filly last season after winning the Morny and the Cheveley Park (here) and is undoubtedly very smart; who beats her, wins.
