listed race at Pontefract

best race in Britain and Ireland today is the listed Pipalong Stakes over a mile for 4yo and older fillies and mares at 17.00 CET at Pontefract. 10 fillies entered, all looking for black type, and few of them really up to this grade. One exception could be the improving Flora Trevelyan (Walter Swinburn/ Ted Durcan), who won a Sandown handicap in fine style last time. Swinburn´s stable is in good form, but the really hot trainer right now is Brian Meehan, and for that reason his Sarah Park (Kieren Fallon) is highly respected, even though she was well beaten last time out in a Group Three on Derby Day. Tropical Paradise (Peter Winkworth/ Jim Crowley) -possibly best at 7 furlongs - and Good Again (Gerald Butler/ Hayley Turner) - the only CD winner in the field- are others to consider.
the rest of today´s racing is pretty grim: all-weather card at Wolverhampton in the afternoon and Southwell in the evening -with only class 5 or 6 events, jumping this evening at Uttoxeter and in Ireland an all-hurdles card at Roscommon,
At Wolverhampton we expect the 8 1/2 furlong maiden at 17.15 to develop into a match between Battle Honour (Henry Candy/ Dane O´Neill) and White Devil (Andrew Balding/ Jimmy Fortune). The latter had no chance at Royal Ascot, but this event is obviously much easier; however the former´s second place to the smart Afsane reads better. German-bred Home Sweet Home (Ed Dunlop( Ahmed Ajtebi) is an interesting runner in the 7 furlongs handicap at 18.15 as he was last seen running in Hungary.
Another trainer to have come back into form recently is Jamie Osborne, and we expect him to win the 6 furlongs handicap this evening at 22.10 at Southwell with Super Yellow (Fergus Sweeny)
At Uttoxeter this evening, Red Dynamite (Geoff Harker/ Paddy Aspell) can follow up his recent Wetherby victory by taking the novice handicap chase at 20.50 under a penalty, while the most interesting runner at Roscommon could be the ex-German Narcisco (Shark Hanlon/ Joe Cullen) in the maiden hurdle at 19.00. He was listed class in Germany two years ago, but since being sold to go jumping, has run three disastrous races for Nigel Hawke. Now, havng had a break and in a new yard, he might run better this time.
