The great Cologne classic on a public holiday

Cologne, Monday, 29 May: May 2023 comes to an end with the first classic of the year: On Whit Monday, a true holiday programme beckons in Cologne, as the 38th Mehl-Mülhens Race attracts nine top three-year-olds in the battle for the first classic of the year.

It might be difficult for the local horses to keep the race (10,000 Euros are offered here in the premium triple bet) in the country. Even though See Paris (L. Delozier) was already second in the Prize of the Winter Favourite here, Levanto (E. Pedroza) won in good style in Magdeburg and Dhangadhi (R. Piechulek) showed potential in the Düsseldorf success. For the guests are not only enormously strong in terms of numbers. The English Angers (A. Atzeni), Benacre (J. Mitchell), Finn`s Charm (I. Mendizabal) and Dragon Icon (D. Egan) are particularly appealing, but there are also hopes from France and the Czech Republic.

Between 2 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., nine tests will be offered, including another highlight with the Windstoß race (Listed race, 25,000 Euros, 1,850 m). The track victory of Aguirre (A. Starke) was very convincing. Petit Marin (A. de Vries) won the Prize of German Unity in 2022 and could shine again right away. The Equalisation II over the mile also knows how to please. The limits of Rosa (N. Polli) should hardly have been seen before. 15,000 Euros are guaranteed in the four-horse bet of the 8th race (Equalisation IV, 1,300 m). Royal Emerther (B. Ganbat) would have deserved a success.
