Derby winner in the Eclipse Stakes

Sandown, Saturday, July 2: The next summer classic will be decided today at Sandown with the Eclipse Stakes (4th race/16.35pm/750,000 pounds/2002m). Big names appear in the winners` list such as Enable and St Mark`s Basilica, who showed up last year. Following in their footsteps could be French Derby triumphant Vadeni (Christophe Soumillon) from the stable of Jean-Claude Rouget, but Native Trail (William Buick), so far beaten only once in the English 2000 Guineas but victorious in the Irish 2000 Guineas, also has what it takes for a classic win. Bay Bridge (Ryan Moore) did not break a sweat with his second place in the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes (Group 1), rather he confirmed his good form behind State Of Rest and his belonging to the absolute top. Alenquer (Tom Marquand), bred by Römerhof Stud, has had a highly successful first half of the year so far. At Lingfield he won the Winter Derby (Group 3 and most recently at the Curragh he beat Bay Bridge conqueror State Of Rest and Lord North (James Doyle) in the Gold Cup (Group 1). Mishriff (David Egan) enters as last year`s third. The Gosden protégé, who had no chance in the Saudi Cup (Group 1) this year, ends a four-month break.
