Gloroius Goodwood starts today with a high class card and continues through Saturday. There could even be a German winner as Amarillo (Peter Schiergen/ Adrie de Vries) certainly has a each way chance in the main event, the Group Two Lennox Stakes over 7 furlongs at 16.05 CET. Toormore (Richard Hannon) is the obvious favourite here, after winning his first 4 races, he was far from disgraced in the 2,000 Guineas and St. James´s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Hannon has another 3yo entered, Anjaal (Paul Hanagan), who looks less likely, but should not be overlooked, especially considering the fantastic form of the owner. Garswood (Richard Fahey/ Ryan Moore) won this race last year,. with Boom and Bust (Marcus Tregoning/ Martin Dwyer) third - and should be in the shake up again, with Es Que Love (Clive Cox/ Adam Kirby) next best. But Amarillo is running over his best trip and we expect him to do well.
The trainers to follow at this meeting are Richard Hannon and Mark Johnston, and Hannon is continuing his father´s fighting policy here, with runners in almost every race. He has 3 in the Group Three Molecomb Stakes for 2yo´s over 5 furlongs at 15.30 and should take this with Beacon (Richard Hughes) who is very fast and clearly goes well on this firm going; Cotai Glory (Charlie Hills/ George Baker) possibly found 6 furlongs too far last time and looks the main danger.
The 4 handicaps on today´s card all look extremely difficult. Our each-way selections are top-weight Tha´ir (Saeed bin Suroor/ Silvestre de Sousa) at 14.55, Dashing Star (David Elsworth/ William Buick) at 16.40, Skytrain (Mark Johnston/ Hanagan) at 17.50 and Daylight (Andrew Balding/ Oisin Murphy) in the last race.
