Galway Festival: second day

the card at Galway is not so strong today as it was yesterday, but there are still some very interesting events. To our surprise Dermot Weld only won one race yesterday, but he was runner-up 3 times and there could be more to come today. Antique Platinum (Pat Smullen) looks a near certainty in the maiden race at 21.15 but is unlikely to start at a working man´s price. Hidden Universe (Smullen) is more interesting in the 2 mile handicap at 20.10. He won the Champion Bumper in 2010 but has had lots of problems since; However he looks very nicely handicapped now. Weld and Aidan O´Brien always dominate the 2yo races here (as they did again yesterday), and its Weld´s Chinese Light up against O´Brien´s Together Forever at 19.05; we have no real opinion on this, but will be surprised if another trainer gets a look in here. O´Brien should in any case have a winner over hurdles with Shield (Robbie Power) at 18.05, while neoither of the Big two has a runner in the 2 3/4 mile chase at 18.35; Domination (Charlie Byrnes/ Davy Russell) won on the flat at Royal Ascot last month, but also jumps well and looks very nicely weighted here. The most valuable race of the day is the 8 1/2 furlongs handicap at 19.40 which looks very tricky; we will row in with the Weld/ Smullen team again and Defining Year, but there are plenty of possibilitiues in this very open race.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Shield - Shemshal - Rich Coast
2. Race: Domination - Cailin Annamh - Pride Of The Artic
3. Race: Chinese Light - Together Forever - Cocoon
4. Race: Baraweez - Hint Of A Tint - Bold Thady Quill
5. Race: Papa`s Way - Alileo - Cassells Rock
6. Race: Six Silver Lane - Sretaw - In Salutem
