a typical Tuesday with mainly rubbish racing. The best sport comes this evening from Ireland with the mixed card at Killarney (4 flat races and 3 chases). The most valuable race is the 2 miles 1 furlong handicap chase at 21.00 CET, in which we expect one of the two top-weights to score, Klepht (Tony Mullins/ Davy Condon) or Ted Veale (Tony Martin/ Barry Geraghty), probably the latter, who has been running - without much success- in top company. Elsewhere on this card, Aidan O´Brien´s El Salvador should win the Q.R. race over 1 3/4 miles at 20.30; he is a real family horse, being owned by his wife and ridden here by daughter Sarah. The only conceivable danger is Il Fenomeno (Noel Meade/ Nina Carberry), a useful N.H. performer who however has not run on the flat for almost 4 years.
Thee races in the U.K. are of minimal interest, and with some small fields are in the main not at all punter-friendly, especially with the ground now firming up again. The sprint handicap at 16.15 at Bath looks between the well-bred 3yo Jacob´s Pillow (William Haggas/ Nathan Alison) and Speed Hawk (Robert Cowell/ George Baker). The latter has been running in good races and ran well at Ascot on Saturday in a much hotter race, but the prefer the former, who looks capable of further improvement and whose latest form has worked out well.
At Beverley, the 2 mile handicap at 16.30 can go to the improving Longshadow (Jason Ward/ Joey Haynes). He has an excellent German pedigree, being a half-brother by Monsun to Group One winner Lady Marian. Should he run well, that would be a pointer to the chances of Mason Hindmarsh (Karen McLintock/ Connor Beasley) at 20.10 at Thirsk, who was runner-up to him last time.
