6 meetings today, but again mainly at a very low level, and once again Ireland comes to the rescue with a listed race this evening at 19.40 CET at Killarney for fillies and mares over 8 1/2 furlongs. Everyone is on the lookout for black type for their well-bred fillies, and so we have a large field here including 3 each from Aidan O´Brien and Paul Deegan. To be frank, the latter´s runners probably have no chance, but the O´Brien runners are a different matter, and our selection is Palace (Seamus Heffernan), who ran unplaced on both the Oaks and the Irish 1,000 Guineas but was far from disgraced and meets much lesser oposition here. The danger is Sparkle Factory (Dermot Weld/ Pat Smullen).
In the U.K. there is flat racing at Ayr this afternoon and Lingfield (a.w.) and Windsor this evening. King of Macedon (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning) is certainly not one of the stable stars, but as the only 3yo in the field and getting a lot of weight,he might be good enough to take the 7 furlongs handicap at the Scottish track at 18.00. With the large Sir Mark Prescott operation now swinging into gear, the Newmarket trainer can land a double at Lingfield witjh Windshield at 19.20 and Shaft of Light an hour later, both partnered by Luke Morris. Most of the top jockeys are at Windsor, but the card is very poor; German-bred Prairie Rose (Olly Stevens/ Harry Bentley) has a fair each-way chance in the fillies mile handicap at 21.00.
There is also jumps racing this afternoon at Newton Abbot and, in Ireland, at Downpatrick, which stages an all-hurdles Card.
