6 more meetings today

once again. 6 meetings today - 3 this afternoon and 3 in the evening- but mainly low level handicaps. The evening card at Kempton is probably the best of the day, and there are some potentially useful 3yo´s entered in the 7 furlongs handicap at 21.30 CET. 4 of them are last-time winners, of whom the best might be Ralph Beckett´s Bowie Boy (jockey as yet unclear as Jim Crowley had a nasty fall yesterday, although he hopes to be back for Epdom tomorrow), but we shall go for the very lightly-raced Idea (Sir Michael Stoute/ James Doyle); he did not show a great deal on his seasonal debut, but Stoute´s horses usually come on a lot for their first run. In the following mile handicap, Whipper Snapper )William Knight/ Oisin Murphy) is the form choice, having won over this CD in late April and followed up with a good second at Lingfield, but we prefer the relatively unexposed Don´t Stare (James Fanshawe/ Freddie Tylicki).

The meetings at Lingfield (where the first 5 races are on grass, the last 3 on polytrack), Southwell and Hamilton are probably best ignored, while there is jumping this evening at Ffos Las and a mixed meeting at Tipperary (4 flat races, 2 over hurdles and a bumper). At the Welsh track, we hope that Santo Thomas (Venetia Williams/ Aidan Coleman) can concede the weight in the handicap chase at 19.20, while German-bred Lava Lamp (Evan Williams/ Adam Wedge) might be worth a tiny each-way bet at 21.05. There are also two ex-German horses running in Ireland, Coolfighter at 20.10 and Erlkönig at 20.45, both with chances. The most interesting runner at Tipperary however is the O´Brien´s Masai in the 5 furlongs handicap at 19.05, who is apparently being prepared for Royal Ascot; if he considered good enough for that high-class meeting, he certainly ought to win here and get the O´Brien weekend off to a good start.
