3 very poor meetings today

we never expect much in the way of classy racing on a Tuesday, but today´s cards put together probably make the worst day´s racing of the entire year. Not only that, some very small fields and likely odds-on favourites mean that they are not punter-friendly at all. The "best" race of the day is the class 4 novice chase over 3 miles 3 furlongs at 14.30 CET at Sedgefield, with a grand total of 3 runners. .Bit Of A Jig (Donald McCain/ Jason Maguire) is the likely favourite, after running well on his chasing debut, but Rev It Up (Tim Vaughan/ Richard Johnson) was the better hurdler, and despite his very poor effort last time after a long break, we make him our choice. Otherwise the Sedgefield card can be dominated by Tony McCoy, who travels to Yorkshire for 4 rides, all with winning chances. Dakar Run, owned by his boss JP McManus, looks hard to beat in the maiden hurdle at 14.00, while two handicap hurdlers trained by Brian Ellison can also score for the champion- Travis County at 15.00 and Beaumont´s Party half an hour later.

Sego Success (Alan King/ Wayne Hutchinson) and Hannibal the Great (Charlie Longsdon/ Kielan Woods) both ran in the same race at Huntingdon a month ago and both failed to complete. That was however a very messy race and both would probably been involved in the finish under normal circumstances. They now run at 14.15 and 14.40 respectively at Southwell and they can both make up for those mishaps today. Oldtimers often shine on these bad cards and we think that 12yo Tisfreetdream (Paul Pritchard / Jack Doyle) must have a fair each-way chance in a very weak race at 15.50.

The all-weather card at Wolverhampton is, if anything, even worse than the two N.H. cards. A maiden race at this time of year is unlikely to have many form horses in the line-up and most of the runners at 17.10 are unlikely ever to Trouble the judge. The only two with any sort of form are Cash Is King (Nick Littmoden/ Martin Lane) and the ex-Irish filly Conversational (Mick Channon/ Martin Harley). We just prefer the former, who has at least been runner-up 3 times this year and can perhaps finally get his head in front.
