3 poor meetings today

no racing in Ireland today and of the 4 British meetings, only the N.H. card at Plumpton is of interest. Even with only 3 runners, the limited handicap chase at 14.10 CET is the best event and none of the 3 can be easily discarded. Smart hurdling mare Une Artiste (Nicky Henderson/ Tony McCoy) makes her chasing debut here and if she jumps round well should win, especially with her trainer now coming into form and a jockey who can do no wrong. However she must concede weight to Buthelezi (John Ferguson/ Denis O´Ragan) and Billy No Name (Colin Tizzard/ Brendan Powell), who both have decent form, so it is no walkover. The following handicap hurdle over an extended 3 miles at 14.40 is another race with a small field, in this case 5 runners, but still wide open. Aimigayle (Suzy Smith/ Colin Bolger) and Cannon Fodder (Sheena West/ Mark Goldstein) both won over CD last time out, but are not so well handicapped now, and we shall take a chance on The Road Ahead (Peter Bowen/ Tom O´Brien), who has never tried such a long distance before but may just improve for it. Nicky Henderson also has 2 runners in the opening novices hurdle, and we like Electrolyser (David Bass), who was listed class on the flat; he showed very little on his hurdles debut, but the ground was terrible that day and he deserves another chance. The 2 German-breds here are not totally impossible, but neither has yet run up to his pedigree and the same goes for Agapanthus (Neil Mulholland/ Noel Fehily) in the handicap hurdle at 15.40. The form figures for this one time Schlenderhan Derby hope are terrible, but he is coming off a break and racing off a ridiculously low handicap mark, so today might just be his day.
The racing on the two all-weather tracks, Kempton and Wolverhampton, is very low stuff indeed. The most interesting races are the two divisions of the two-year-old maiden at 16.20 and 16.50 at Kempton, but they are not so suitable for betting purposes with little form to go on and some well-bred newcomers from top stables.
