5 poor meetings today

Monday rarely sees good racing staged and today´s cards are certainly among the weakest we have seen all season. Surprisingly, several top Newmarket trainers send runners to Wolverhampton this afternoon, and Lady Cecil can take the 3yo maiden there at 17.15 CET with Misfer (Tom Queally), while Chord Chant (Saeed bin Suroor/ Mickael Barzalona) looks the better of two Godolphin 2yo´s running half an hour earlier.

The card at Chepstow is just as poor, but at least the track is graced by the presence of champion jockey Richard Hughes, and he might land a hat-trick on Hughie Morrison´s Burnham at 15.30, Richard Hannon´s Majesty at 16.30 and Sylvester Kirk´s Secret Rebel another hour later.

Hughes moves on to the evening meeting at Windsor, where his best ride is possibly Hannon´s Bursleden in the 3yo handicap over 1 172 miles at 22.10, but here we prefer top-weight Couloir Extreme (Gary and Ryan Moore), penalised 6 lbs for a very easy win here last week over a slightly shorter distance. Ryan Moore can also take the other 3yo handicap, this time over a mile at 20.40, with Jeremy Noseda´s lightly-raced Messila Star.

Our German-breds yesterday did not do so well, but Full Speed (Philip Kirby/ Declan Cannon) must have an each-way chance this evening at 20.50 at Thirsk, while the much-improved Running Reef ( Tracy Waggott/ Barry McHugh) can complete a quick hat-trick half an hour later.

There is also Irish jumping this evening at Kilbeggan; obviously Willier Mullins will not be bringing his stars out at this time of year, but he could still have a hat-trick here with Great Jones at 19.00, Alelchi Inois an hour later and Paparazzi Kid, who makes his fencing debut at 22.00; all three are partnered by Ruby Walsh.
