5 more poor meetings today

Once again, very little to write home about with regards to the racing at today´s 5 meetings. This afternoon we have low level cards at Beverley and Brighton; in both cases 6 of the 7 races are poor handicaps, which are generally not ideal for betting purposes. At Brighton Green Earth (Paul Phelan/ Jemma Marshall) can complete a quick four-timer at 15.45 CET, as he still appears to be well handicapped and obviously goes well at this track. Dorback (Violet Jordan/ Martin Harley) has won twice within the last week and can also win again, despite a 12 lbs penalty, at 16,45. At Beverley we like top-weight Gala Casino Star (Geoff Harker/ Jordan Nason) in the 10 furlongs handicap at 17.00; he is always ridden by this apprentice, the owner´s son, and is now back to his last winning mark.

Even this evening´s Newbury card is not much better. There could be some decent performers in the two races for 2yo fillies, but as most of them are making their debuts, they are no good as a betting medium. Imperial Glance (Andrew Balding/ Oisin Murphy) was an easy winner last week at Salisbury and can follow up at 21.00 with the same apprentice on board and no penalty. Squeeze my Brain (Ralph Beckett/ Jamie Spencer) was slowly away last time, biut if she gets off on terms now can be another winner for the Qatari team at 21.35.

There is jumping this evening at Newton Abbot, and the two interesting runners here are Baby Mix (Tom George/ Noel Fehily) and Cry of Freedom (John Ferguson/ Jack Quinlan) - both useful handicap hurdlers who met in the hot Swinton Hurdle at Haydock in early May. Both were unplaced there are, then ran over fences - Baby Mix winning easily over this CD and he can follow up in the novice chase at 20.05. However Cry of Freedom did not seem to take to chasing and reverts to hurdles here at 20.35, and despite a huge weight should be able to defeat these opponents if back to his old form.

In Ireland, there is a mixed meeting at Ballinrobe, with 4 flat races followed by 4 over hurdles. One True Love (Aidan and Joseph O´Brien) is not one of the stable stars, but should be able to take the fillies maiden at 19.10. She has been runner-up on all her 3 starts this season; this is usually a bad sign but we will give her the benefit of the doubt, as she was never beaten far in large fields and today´s opposition does not look strong.
