6 meetings today

6 meetings today, but as is usual on a Monday (it is not a holiday in the U.K.), all at a very low level. It was expected that Frankie Dettori would make his comeback this evening at Leicester after a six months suspension for testing positive to cocain, but the French authorities have apparently demanded a further medical examination. Ryan Moore may be the one to profit from his absence and can land a double here with Sir Michael Stoute´s Evangelist at 19.20 CET and Jeremy Nioseda´s Ian´s Dream at 21,20. We shall also be interested to see how Dandy (Andrew Balding/ David Probert) runs in the 10 furlongs handicap here at 20.50; he has shown little so far but is from an excellent German family and runs here off bottom weight.
Another German-bred who could be worth a second look is Lava Lamp (Evan Williams/ Conor Ring) in the handicap hurdle at 16.20 at Newton Abbot. This half-brother to Group One winner Lady Marian is not the most consistent, but certainly capable of running well in this company.
The best race this afternoon is probably the 5 furlongs sprint at 17.10 at Redcar, which looks very tricky. Bedloe´s Island (David O´Meara/ Danny Tudhope) won this last year, and although he is now higher in the weights, he has been in good form and can perhaps score again.
The regular Monday evening at Windsor has a poor card. Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes are usually the team to follow here and should certainly win the 2yo race at 20.10 with the potentially smart Thunder Strike, who has only two opponents to beat.
