5 poor meetings today

very poor sport on offer today with no race at any of the 5 meetings (including one over jumps) better than class 4. Brighton finally opens its gates for 2013, after its first 3 fixtures had to be transferred owing to the poor growth of grass after the long winter. Best bet here could be Chilli Green (Julia Feilden/ Liam Keniry), who has top weight in the fillies handicap over 7 furlongs at 16.40 CET; she has been running without success in much better races and back at this level should be hard to beat.
Another filly we hope can outclass the opposition is Pompeia (Ralph Beckett/ Jim Crowley) at 16.50 at Nottingham; she is closely related to the star German filly Catella. Beckett and Crowley also have prospects with Secret Art in the second division of the 3yo maiden an hour later; he has the best public form - placed on all four starts- but there are several well-bred newcomers and dark horses in both divisions of this race, which are probably more interesting to watch than to bet on.
At Newcastle, Graham Lee can land a double on David Simcock´s lightly-raced Mean It, who has top weight in the 10 furlongs handicap at 17.30, and Will Storey´s Jan Smuts, who can complete a quick hat-trick over this trip of two miles half an hour later.
It´s "singles night" at Pontefract, but those looking for profit rather than romance should concentrate on the 11/2 mile handicap at 19.50. Arizona John (J Mackie/ Franny Norton) is very consistent, having been placed 9 times in the 11 starts since his last win, but his rating never goes down as a result, so we shall go for Kandari (Jonjo O´Neill/ Richard Hughes), quite a useful hurdler who has not run on the flat since winning a handicap in Chantilly 5 years ago. His weight here looks very lenient and he can score for leading N.H. owner JP McManus.
;Mackie also has a chance in the handicap hurdle at 20.35 at Towcester with Aegean Destiny (Donal Devereux) but the clear form choice here is CD specialist Prince Pippin (Lucy Jones/ Tony McCoy).
