3 poor meetings today

The last clues for Cheltenham were probably revealed at the weekend, and it is most unlikely that today´s Plumpton card will offer any more. The best horse running there is probably Violin Davis (Harry Fry/ Noel Fehily), who should not be overly troubled to take the mares novice chase at 15.40 CET; she was easily the best of these over hurdles, has won her last two races over fences well enoigh and can defy a 12 lbs penalty against this poor opposition. The maiden hurdle that opens the card at 15.10 is also interesting, with Asker (Gary and Jamie Moore), Leviathan (Venetia Williams/ Aidan Coleman) and Little Dutch Girl (Nicky Henderson/ Andrew Tinkler) all in the line-up. the last-named, as a 4yo filly, gets 16 lbs from the other two, which could swing the race her way. Ex-German Engai (David Bridgeswater/ Tom Phelan) in the handicap hurdle at 16.10 is our each-way bet here; his form in the U.K. has been very disappointing and inconsistent, but he ran his best race over thi s CD in early January, and can be forgiven his latest flop on desperate ground.

The two all-weather cards are only of minor interest and present few good betting opportunities. Mark Johnston´s big stable has been held up by the weather but is now swinging into form and he could have a couple of winners at Wolverhampton. Flashlight, placed on all his starts last season., should certainly win the 6 furlongs maiden at 16.00, while debutant Ambleside could follow up at 17.30. House of Orange, ridden like the other two by Joe Fanning, also has a chance at 18.00, although on what has been seen in public, Mumeyez (John Hosden/ Rab Havlin) would appear to have much better prospects.

Marco Botti and Adam Kirby can land a double at Lingfield, with Guest of Honour in the mile handicap at 17.20 and Poet´s Prospect in the 3yo handicap half an hour later. Greek Islands (Ed de Giles/ Liam Keniry) was a very easy winner over this CD on Thursday and can follow up under a penalty in the 7 furlongs handicap at 18.20.
