Bath, Ffos Las and Listowel

Following yesterday´s dramatic events, today´s racing in the U.K. and Ireland is very low key. Bath and Ffos Las offer mainly low-level handicaps, although the best bet at Bath is probably Jubilee Diamond (Richard Hannon/ Pat Dobbs) in the maiden race for 2yo fillies at 16.10 CET; she is clearly not one of the stars in this huge stable, but the form of her two second places (she had no chance in top company at Royal Ascot in between) should be good enough for her to win here. Also at Bath, we think that Iguacu (RJ Price/ Daniel Huscott) can follow up his recent CD win in the 10 furlongs handicap atn hour later, where he has the two Bernard Llewellyn runners to beat.

RJ Price could also be among the winners at Ffos Las, as Cheveton (Tagdh O´Shea) has dropped to a very attractive weight in the 5 furlongs handicap at 17.30; he has been out of form so far this season, but won the Ayr Silver Cup a year ago and is now 8 lbs lower. Cheveton is a mere youngster at 8, but a real veteran, and one of our favourite horses, runs in the much lower level 5 furlongs handicap an hour later: 12yo Cape Royal (Milton Bradley/ Chris Catlin), running his 181st race. He too has come down in the weights and we cannot resist a small each-way bet.

There are some huge fields in Ireland, where the week-long Kerry Harvest Festival meeting starts at Listowel. Main interest here is centred not on a horse, but on a jockey - Ruby Walsh, who returns from a long injury break wotzjh ztwo rides for Willie Mullins. Rattan should certainly win the 2 mile hurdle race at 15,50; he has been racing in much better company and is clear top-rated here. His other mount Connaught Manor at 16.20 also has a chance, but there are 18 runners here and it looks quite open.

Our main advice however is to watch the Arc trials at Longchamp, which may not be attractive for betting purposes, but should deliver some idea about what we can expect in 3 weeks time (see next story).
