Newbury today

There is also a good card at Newbury, where the valuable Weatherbys Super Sprizt for 2yo´s over 5 furlongs at 16.50 CET is the main event. With 24 runners spread right across the track on heavy ground this is a lottery. Richard Hannon has a great record here, but with his main jockeys Hughes and Moore at Nrewmarket, he has booked Sean Levey to partner Lýric Ace and Darryll Holland for Ceelo, but the clear form choice is Hototo (Kevin Ryan/ Phbillip Makin), who has won his last 2 races, including the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot.

The Group Three Hackwood Stakes over 6 furlongs at 16.10 is another open race. Maarek (David Nagle/ Collm O´Donoghue) and Regal Parade (Milton Bradley/ William Carson) are both well suited by heavy ground, but the one to beat here is surely Godolphin´s Soul (Saeed bin Suroor/Silvestre de Sousa), who was 4th in the Diamond Jubilee last time out. On this ground we also like Poet (Clive Cox/ Eddie Ahern) in the listed race over 10 furlongs at 17.20. His front-running style means that he often sets things up for a late closer, but there appears to be nothing in this field good enough to overhaul him.
