Craven Stakes at Newmarket

The Craven Stakes for 3yo´s over a mile at 17.10 CET is the big race at Newmarket today and has always been a reliable early classic guide. With 13 runners, all winners and 3 of them still unbeaten, it may look an open affair, but in fact Much Improved (Brian Meehan/ Kieren Fallon) is expected tp start a red-hot favourite. Third in the Dewhurst Stakes last autumn, the Lawman colt has been very heavily backed for the 2,000 Guineas and if thi support is to be justified then he should win today. Although the classic generation remain in focus, the older horses also have their chance today with two listed races, the Abernant Stakes over 6 furlongs at 16.35 and the Earl of Sefton over 9 furlongs at 17.45. Our selections are Genki (Roger Charlton/ George Baker) and Twice Over (Sir Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally) respectively.
