classic trials at Newbury

today´s Newbury card is one of the best of the season so far, but unfortunately the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at 16.10 CET, one of the best trials for the 2,000 Guineas and won last year by Frankel, has cut up badly. With Roger
Charlton´s Top Offer and Sir Michael Stoute´s Tales of Grimm both withdrawn, there are now only 5 runners, with Bronterre /Richard Hannon/ Pat Dobbs) and Caspar Nestcher (Alan McCabe/ Shane Kelly) standing out by miles, we prefer the former, whose stable is already in top form. Hannon can also take the fillies equivalent race at 15.35 with Best Terms (Ryan Moore), who won her first 4 races last term before finishing fifth when favourite for the Cheveley Park. She can get back on the winning trail here. Moonstone Magic (Ralph Beckett/ Jim Crowley), a very easy winner of a minor race at Leicester last week, is taking a huge leap in class but still looks next best.
The two maiden races for 3yo´s on the Newbury card have very strong fields, with some well-bred performers from top stables entered. Some of them could well turn out to be better in the long run than those enetred in the group races today. Pride of place here goes to Noble Mission (Sir Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally), an own brother to Frankel, who runs at 13.30.
