Lingfield and Wolverhampton

with the N.H. meetings at Market Rasen and Sedgefield both abandoned (and more abandonments looking very likely this week), there is only all-weather action today.
Wolverhampton stages an additional fixture and there are some small fields; in fact, normal each-way betting is possible in none of the 6 races. Luctur Emergo (Keith Dalgliesh/ Joe Fanning) and Gabrial´s King (Ian Williams/ Paul Hanagan) met over this CD last Thursday, when the former won by a length. They clash again in the 3yo handicap at 17.30 CET, and possibly the latter, now 6 lbs better off, may be able to reverse the placings. Our main fancy here is Kie (Donald McCain/ Hanagan), who runs in the 2 mile handicap at 17.00. This is a very bad race, and Kie, who has won twice over hurdles, has a clear chance off bottom weight.
There are bigger fields at Southwell but the quality is not much better. The best race is the 6 furlongs handicap at 16.45 with several possibilities. Brian Ellison holds a strong hand here with Global Village (Barry McHugh) and Upper Lambourn (Tony Hamilton), both in good form and with a good CD record; we have a slight preference for bottom-weight Joe le Taxi (Mark Johnston(/Martin Lane), who won 4 races on the all-weather last year, including this CD. The card opens with 2 handicaps for amateur riders; our best strategy here is to ignore form altogether (they are all poor and inconsistent performers anyway) and back the most experienced riders - in this case Serena Brotherton and Simon Walker.
