only Kempton today

with the abandonment of all 3 N.H. fixtures today, the all-weather card at Kempton has been moved to the afternoon and stages the only racing in the U.K. The outlook for the next few days is mixed; while it remains frozen in most parts of the east and south, it seems to be much warmer in the west (e.g. Taunton tomorrow) and in the north and Scotland, where Musselburgh is putting on an extra meeting on Saturday with a good card. Prospects for the excellent Newbury card on Saturday look about 50/50 at present.
Obviously the Kempton card is very weak and consists of 7 low-grade handicaps and a claimer, which seems to be at the mercy of Satwa Laird (David Simcock/ Jamie Spencer) at 16.55 CET. The 3yo handicaps are certainly the most interesting events. They go over 5 furlongs at 16.25, when we expect Lady Caprice (Jane Chapple-Hyam/ Chris Catlin) to complete a 2012 hattrick. The 7 furlongs race at 17.30 looks quite tricky, with 4 of the 6 runners winner last time out. We have a slight preference for Pale Orchid (David Evans Luke Morris), who has shown much improved form since moving to this stable. Half an hour later we fancy Spartilla (James Given/ James Sullivan) over 1 mile 3 furlongs, he was an easy winner over this CD lst time. That was a very poor race, but so is this.
