One group and three listed races today

The group race is in Ireland, at Cork, and is over 1 1/2 miles at 17.10 CET. 8 of the 12 runners are 3yo´s and we expect one of this age group to win. Aidan O´Brien saddles three runners here, with Spin (Seamus Heffernan) possibly the best of them. John Oxx has rwo runners, with Haziyna (Niall McCullough) the pick. There is a similar picture in the listed race over a mile at 16.40. This time Colm O´Donoghue could be on the best of O´Brien´s three, the German-bred Wild Wind, while McCullough partners Oxx´ Alanza.

The other Irish meeting is the final day at Galway, where the main event is a valuable handicap chase at 17.25. Scotsirish (Willie Mullins/ Paul Townend) is the class act here, but has to concede lumps of weight; he finished 5th of 22 in the Galway Plate, a much better race, here on Wednesday. If he has got over the exertions of that race, he should still win in this lesser company. Dermot Weld has established new record by saddling 16 winners at the meeting so far; he and his jockey Pat Smullen will be in Munich today, but the stable can still win some more races, with claimer Leigh Roche partnering El Toreros at 16.55, Force of Habit an hour later and Comedic Art at 18.25.

In the U.K., there are listed races at Chester and Newbury. At the first-named track the race is over 6 furlongs at 16.30; Rock Jock (Tracy Collins/ Pat Shanahan) has solid form at home in Ireland and can take this. At Newbury the fillies´ race over 1 1/2 miles at 17.30 looks quite open.Zain al Boldan (Mick Channon/ Richard Hughes) was an easy winner of the Lingfied Oaks trial but has disappointed on three outings since. Polygon (John Gosden/ William Buick) looks the more likely 3yo winner, after scoring very easily over 10 furlongs here last time and represents a stable in top form. However the one to beat is surely Sea of Heartbreak (Roger Charlton/ Steve Drowne), who was last time only half a length behind Timepiece, whe runs in the Group One at Deauville today.
