German chances at Deauville today

The Deauville summer meeting hits hot gear today with the Group One Prix Rothschild over a mile for fillies and mares at 15.40 CET. This event looks taylor-made for the great Goldikova (Freddie Head/ Olivier Peslier), who has won he race for the past 3 years and looks almost unbeatable again. No horse has ever won a French Group One 4 years running, but Goldikova thrives on setting up new records.

She is opposed by Timepiece (Sir Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally), Sahpresa (Rodolphe Collet/ Christophe Lemaire) and First City (David Slimcock/ Christophe Soumillon), who took the first 3 places in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket´s July meeting. With the Cecil stable in great form, Timepiece might come out on top again, but Goldikova would have to underperform if she is not to take this for the 4th time. Vanjura (Roland Dzubasz/ Alexander Pietsch) is the best German filly over this trip, but will do well to get placed in this company.

There is also an international field in the Group Three Prix de Cabourg for 2yo s over 1200 metres at 14.30. Three are two British runners, but German interests are represented by Baden-Baden winner Chica Loca (Michael Figge/ Maxime Guyon) and Dabirsim (Christophe Ferland/ Philippe Sogorb), a very easy winner of both his races in the French provinces. He is owned by the boss, so we are all crossing our fingers for him!
