8 meetings today

Lots of racing in Britain and Ireland today, but all of a very low standard. Haydock stages the second day of its 3-day meeting, but without any highlights. The 3yo mile handicap at 17.00 CET is arguably the best race, and big owner Hamdan al Maktoum has a double chance here with Manaaber (Barry Hills/ Tagdh O´Shea) in the first colours, but we prefer the second string Aglaal (John Gosden/ William Buick), from a stable in top form.

Top weight Oceanway (Mark Johnston/ Silvestre de Sousa) faces a stiff task, and we think Cosmic Moon (Richard Fahey/ Barry McHugh) - from another red hot stable- could be an interesting each-way bet. Frankie Dettori is at Yarmouth, presumably because of Godolphin´s well-bred newcomer Outsmart in the 6 furlongs maiden race at 15.20. He would not need to be anything special to win this event. He also partners John Best´s Hecton Lad in the mile handicap at 16.20, but he has gone up 10 lbs for winning a poor race and we think consistent German-bred Grey Boy (Tony Carroll/ George Downing) is the one to be on here. Dettori also rides Michael Bell´s topweight Babycakes in the fillies handicap at 16.50 and she must have a decent chance, despite having been off the track since November, as most of the others have all-weather form only.

Another all-weather specialist is Ebraam (Ron Harris/ David Probert) who runs in the 6 furlongs handicap at 16.40 at Bath. 10 of his 11 wins have come on artificial surfaces, but he ran well enough last time at Warwick to suggest that he can take this modest event.
