All-weather racing at Southwell and Kempton

Today´s all-weather racing, at Southwell this afternoon and Kempton this evening, is at a very low level. Only tha very last two races this evening are better than class 5. The 1 1/2 mile handicap at 21.40 CET at Kempton is easily the best race, and seems to lie between King´s Salute (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning) and King Olav (Tony Carroll/ Luke Morris), although Baylini (Jacqui Doyle / Hayley Turner) is also not out of it.

We would like to tip one-time German group winner Donaldson (Jonjo O´Neill/ George Baker), but his recent performances have been just awful. The 3yo handicap over a mile here at 22.10 is also quite interesting. On recent form, Red Yarn (Gary Moore/ George Baker) and Pastello (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes) are the obvious selections, but beware of Azlak (Clive Brittain/ Martin Dwyer). This one was not in the first 5 in 4 outings last year, but the stable is in cracking form and he could be a blot on the handocap off this rating.

At Southwell there are some small fields and few races look punter-friendly. Darryll Holland might possibly win the two class 5 handicaps, over 2 miles at 16.15 with oldtimer and course specialist Sue Lamyman´s Victory Quest, and over 6 furlongs at 17.20 with Kevin Ryan´s Peter´s Gift.
