Southwell today

Mark Johnston, after his record-breaking 2009, continues in great form and has a good chance of landing both of Southwell´s class 4 handicaps today. In the race for 3yo´s over 6 furlongs at 16.50 CET his two representatives, top-weight Bowmaker (Jean-Pierre Guillambert) and Love Delta (Joe Fanning), both CD winners last time, could take the first two places. Bowmaker has not run since easily winning his only start here in October; he has been given quite a high rating, but could well be better class, while Love Delta won here only 9 days ago and has possibly a fitness advantage.
The 7 furlongs event at 15.50 is almost a re-run of a similar race here last weekend, when Follow the Flag (Alan McCabe/ Declan Cannon) was a ready winner from Elusive Fame (Johnston/ Fanning), with Johnny Skull (Phil McEntee/ Jimmy Quinn) 4th and favourite Prohibition (William Haggas/ William Carson) 5th. At the revised weights any of these could win, but it would be no surprise to see the Johnston stable score here. Mozayada (Mel Brittain/ Robert Winston), who won 5 races at this track last winter and seems to be coming back to form, looks a danger to all of them.
Elsewhere, German-bred Princess Flame (Brendan Powell/ Winston), who rarely wins but is consistent both on the level and over hurdles, could be a good each-way bet in the 1 mile 3 furlongs handicap at 15.30, while Brazilian Brush (Milton Bradley/ Ryan Clark), an easy winner over 6 furlongs on Thursday with first-time blinkers, can follow up in the apprentice handicap over a furlong shorter at 14.20.
