German runners at Deauville

Deauville´s December meeting continues today with a huge card (5 races in the morning and 9 in the afternoon) and very large fields. There are 18 engaged in the main event, the listed Prix Petit Etoile for 3yo fillies over 1900 metres at 14.55, including two trained in Germany, Ann Annalena (Andreas Löwe/ Henk Grewe) as well as Peter Schiergen´s The Only Key; Filip Minarik was booked to ride the latter, but is now out of action with an injured hand. This looks a very open affair, but the Schiergen filly is badly drawn on the wide outside, together with British raider Hidden Brief (Michael Jarvis/ Jamie Spencer). There are also numerous German runners on the undercard. In our opinion the race most likely to fall to a German-trained runner is the claiming race for 3yo´s over 1500 metres at 14.55, in which all 3 German runners must have a decent chance - A Special Dream (Nina Bach/ Eric Wehrel), Agura (Mario Hofer/ Frank Panicucci) and Event Dash (Norbert Sauer/ Romuald Becker). A Special Dream was behind Agura at Halle, but has since won easily on the sand in Germany and we think he could come out best of this trio.
