all-weather racing at Southwell and Kempton

it is not often that Frankie Dettori is sent to Southwell to ride in a handicap, but that is the case today when he partners Godolphin´s Burgundy Boy in the mile race that opens the card at 15.10 CET. He was an easy winner at Kempton last week and can follow up here under top-weight. He also rides Maristar for Ger Butler in the 2yo maiden at 15.40 and Bonnelong for Ralph Beckett in the mile maiden at 17.10, both of whom also have chances. Best race at Southwell is the 6 furlongs handicap at 16.40 with 13 runners, which looks very open; top-weight Nightjar (Mark Johnston/ Greg Fairley) and the last-time-out winners Ingleby Arch (David Barron/ Phullip Makin) and Invincible Lad (Eric Alston/ David Allan) make up our short list. Godolphin also have a runner at this evening´s Kempton meeting, Golden Shaheen (Ted Durcan) in the 2yo maiden at 21.20. He had no chance last time in valuable sales race at Newmarket, but his previous form gives him a good chance in this company. Otherwis e the race for 3yo maiden fillies at 20.50 is the most interesting event here. Dulcote Rose (Sylvester Kirk/ Jimmy Fortune) has the best form of those that have run, but there are some well-bred debutants, including Akamon (Ed Dunlop/ Kieren Fallon), a daughter of Monsun from a good German family.
