Nassau Stakes on final day of Glorious Goodwood

The Group One Nassau Stakes over 10 furlongs for fillies and mares at 16.05 CET is the best race of the weekend and the main feature of the final day of Glorious Goodwood. With the exception of the Oaks/ Diane winners Sariska and Stacelita, all the top European fillies over this distance are engaged, although the only non-British runner is the Aga Khan´s Katiyra (John Oxx/ Mick Kinane), who is trained in Ireland. John Oxx has repeatedly shown that he knows how to win British Group Ones, but it is not certain that Katiyra is up to this grade. Of the 5 older fillies in the field, we prefer Heaven Sent (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) and Barshiba (David Elsworth/ Paul Hanagan), who has won her last 2 races in good style, but may find this trip on the short side. The 3yo´s are headed by Midday (Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally), High Heeled (Barry and Michael Hills) and Rainbow View (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune) who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Oaks at Epsom. Midday, who would not li ke any more rain, should come out best of these again, although Rainbow View would obviously be a danger if she could recover her excellent 2yo form. Last time, in the Falmouth Stakes over a mile at Newmarket, Heaven Sent, Spacious and Rainbow View finished in that order behind the smart Goldikova. We hope the rain stays away and tip Midday to uphold the classic form.
