German runners at Deauville

Main event at Dauville today is the Listed Prix de Reux over 2500 metres at 15.25, where the field of 10 includes two strong German candidates: Sassoaloro (Hans Blume/ Johan Victoire) and Little Fighter (Jean-Pierre Carvalho/ Christophe Lemaire). Both ran at the Hamburg Derby meeting, where the latter won a minor event, while the former finished a respectable 5th in the Hansa-Preis. Litte Fighter was runner-up in the 2008 Union-Rennen, but overall Sassoaloro´s form looks better. Camille (P.Kalas/ Olivier Peslier), a son of Monsun, is an interesting runner from central Europe, having won his last 5 races, but this is a different ballgame.

Best of the locals should be Ideal World (André Fabre/ Stephan Pasquier), Barongo (Urs Suter/ Thierry Jarnet) and Mores Wells (Richard Gibson/ Gerald Mossé), but we shall be disappointed if the German runners do not finish in the money. Gyrona (Andreas Trybuhl/ Lemaire) is in excellent form and can be another German winner in the 2400 metres handicap on fibregrass for 5yo´s and up at 14.55, while the inconsistent 9yo Kaliyan (Mario Hofer/ Victoire), if on a going day, also has a chance in the claimer over the same trip at 16.55. Werner Baltromei has booked Dominique Boeuf to partner his two 2yo´s Ustilago and Avril in the mile races for unraced colts and fillies at 13.50 and 14.25 respectively.
