Prix du Jockey Club

After the drama of Epsom´s Derby meeting, the action switches today to the French Derby track at Chantilly, where the Prix du Jockey Club will be run at 17.35 this afternoon. The change in distance to 2100 metres has not met with general approval, but it does guarantee a large field and 17 line up for todays race. Aidan O´Brien , whose runners finished 2,3,4,5 in yesterday´s Derby, has 4 entered here, and jockey bookings suggst that Westphalia (Johnny Murtagh) and Set Sail (Seamus Heffernan) are his main hopes. Godolphin, totally out of luck at present, have supplemented Parthenon (Frankie Dettori), a recent acquisition who has won twice for Mark Johnston this year, but is taking a huge leap in class. German form is represented by Zafisio (Roger Curtis/ Wayne Lordan), runner-up in the Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen; his prospects would be helped by some heavy rain, but he could run well at a big price. However the most likely result is a win for the home side. The Aga Khan has supplemen ted Beheshtam (Alain de Royer-Dupré/ Christophe Soumillon) who has won both his starts in the style of a rapidly improving performer. Silver Frost (Yves de Nicolay/ Olivier Peslier) has the form in the book, having won his last 3 racs including the French 2,000 Guineas. Feels all Right has won both his 2009 starts and represents last year´s winning team of Eric Libaud and Ioritz Mendizibal. Le Havre, representing the highly-successful combination of Jean-Claude Rouget and Christophe Lemaire, is out of a German mare but needs to improve further. A very open race, in which Silver Frost seems the logical choice.
