One Thousand Guineas at Newmarket

By far the best race of the day is the One Thousand Guineas for 3yo fillies over a mile at 16.15 CET at Newmarket. 15 fillies have been declared. but while yesterday´s Two Thousand looked difficult, this race looks quite simple - barring unforeseen circumstances, Rainbow View (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune) should win. George Strawbridge´s filly won all her 4 starts in 2008 in the style of a really smart horse and has 7 lbs in hand on official ratings. The stable is in good form and she has reportedly trained on, so the lack of a recent race should be no disadvantage. Serious Attitude (Rae Guest/ Pat Smullen) was also unbeaten last season, including the Cheveley Park here, and looks clear second best. She should be ideally suited by the distance and the fast ground. Th 4 Irish colts ystrday all finishd in th first 5, but a similar rsult today looks unlikely. Best of their 5 runners is Cuis Ghaire (Jim Bolger/ Kevin Manning), who was bogged down on heavy ground last time but s hould find todays surface to her liking, and her trainer of course has an excellent record in the British classics. On this season´s form, Lahaleeb (Mick Channon/ Darryll Holland) and Super Sleuth (Brian Meehan/ Martin Dwyer), first and second in the Fred Darling, look best, but they will have to improve a lot to trouble Rainbow View, if she is anywhere near her 2008 form.
