Vintage Crop and Yeats

Vintage Crop was one of the best Irish-trained stayers of all time and was sent by Dermot Weld to Australia to become the first ever European winner of the Melbourne Cup. His place in the history book is secure, and so will Yeats´ be if he wins the race named after him at Navan today and then goes on to take the Ascot Gold Cup for the fourth time. Yeats (Aidan O´Brien/ Samus Hffernan) has taken the Vintag Crop twice on his way to Ascot and it will be a big surprise if he fails to win this afternoon at 18.00 CET. One possible danger is "dark horse" Alandi (John Oxx/ Mick Kinan), who has won his only start - but that was a humbl maidn at th Curragh ad this isa diffrnt kttl of fish. Th other big rac at Navan is the listd rac ovr 6 furlongs at 16.20. David Nicholls is a real specialist for these events and saddles two runners, Abraham Lincoln (son Adrian) and Masta Plasta (Chris Hayes). With th othr Irish mting, at Gowran Park, abandoned because of heavy rain, and only modest fa re on offer at 3 U.K. tracks this afternoon, Navan has the scene to itself as far as British and Irish racing is concerned.
