rest of Britain and Ireland today

outside of Sandown, today´s best race is the 7 furlongs listed race at 16.40 CET at Leicester, but there are question marks over several of the runners, especially Peter Chapple-Hyam´s pair Winker Watson (Jamie Spencer) and Shallal (Robert Winston). "WW" was a top 2yo, but has run miserably ever since, while Shallal has not run since finishing last at Royal Ascot. Asset (Saeed bin Suroor/ Ted Durcan) has a chance at this best, but often horses returning from Dubai need time to acclimatise. Vitznau (Richard Hannon) is fairly consistent, but preference is for Racer Forever (John Gosden/ Richard Mullen), who can continue the stable´s excellent run. Mullen and Spencer then make their way to the evening meeting at Haydock, where they can dominate the 3yo maiden at 20.40 with Gosden´s Invisible Man and Brian Meehan´s African Art respectively. Spencer has an interesting mount here for Venetia Williams, Dansimar in the 1 3/4 miles handicap at 19.40; this one has not run on the flat f or 17 months, but is much improved over hurldes, winning 4 times in the meantime, and could be very favourably handicapped now. A staying handicap is also the top race at Ripon, and Wells Lyrical (Brian Smart/ Tom Eaves) can possibly get the better of John Dunlop´s Downhiller (Eddie Ahern) at 16.30 here. Over jumps recent CD winner Tarabaloo (Richard Guest/ Richard McLernon) can follow up in the novices handicap chase at 15.45 at Market Rasen, while ex-German Gladiole could run well at a big price in the maiden hurdle at Irish Kilbeggan at 18.30.
