Rest of Aintree

The remaining races at Aintree are also extremely high class and competitive. The only race with less than 17 runners is the Grade One novice chase over two miles at 15.15 CET, which on Cheltenham form should go to Kalahari King (Ferdy Murphy/ Graham Lee). He was just touched off, while Tatenen (Paul Nicholls/ Ruby Walsh), who started favourite, fell early on.

Cap Tribulation (Malcolm Jefferson/ Phil Kinsella), who found the distance too far at Cheltenham, can take the opening novice hurdle over 2 2/2 miles, though Copper Bleu (Philip Hobbs/ Richard Johnson) and the 4yo Saticon (Alan King/ Robert Thornton) could prove troublsome. The Grade One Aintree Hurdle over 2 1/2 miles at 15.50 is the second most important race of the day and sees the Irish hope Al Eile (John Queally/ Timmy Murphy) attempting to win for the fourth time.He faces very strong opposition, notably from Champion Hurdle runner-up Celestial Halo (Nicholls/ Walsh), and German-bred Catch Me (Edward O´Grady/ Andrew McNamanara), who is unbeaten in 4 starts this season. Th handicaps look almost impossible, while the final bumper at 18.35 has 20 runners, of whom 15 are last-time-out winners and 7 still unbeaten.
