3 group races at Newbury

An excellent card at Newbury with 3 group races, two of them classic trials, while the other is for older horses over 11/2 miles at 15.05 CET. This latter event was won last year by Royal and Regal (Michael Jarvis/ Neil Callan) and he can double up today. Ex-German Sereth probably has no chance, with Barney Curley´s stable totally out of form, so Centennial and all-weather specialist Scintillo look the main dangers.

Jim Bolger has started the season in tremendous form, and he can take both the classic trials with Maoineach in the fillies event at 16.10 and Vocalised in the colts´ equivalent at 16.45. Both will be ridden by son-in-law Kevin Manning and have already scored in good style in Ireland this year. Th Spring Cup over a mile at 15.35 is the big betting race here, and several runners coming from a good performance in the Lincoln Hamndicap, including Zaahid (2nd), Mias Boy (4th) and Charm School (8th), but our fancy is Benandonner (Richard Fahey/ Paul Hanagan), who was noted running in strongly on the all-weather last time.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Border Patrol - Ebiayn - Reportage
2. Race: Centennial - Royal And Regal - Tastahil
3. Race: Zaahid - Manassas - Charm School
4. Race: Maoineach - Sariska - Lahaleeb
5. Race: Shaweel - Cityscape - Vocalised
6. Race: Bennelong - Arabian Flame - Clockmaker
7. Race: Squadron - Swingkeel - Kiribati King
8. Race: Foolin Myself - Liberally - Angel Rock
