N.H. racing at Taunton and Clonmel (Ireland)

Taunton stages the only British jumps racing so far this week, but the card is only moderate. Tony McCoy, originally due to ride at abandoned Huntingdon, now switches to the Somerset track, but so far has only ride, Adare Prince for Philip Hobbs ad JP McManus in the 3 mile handicap chase at 16.50. Adare Prince, who has won 3 times this season including 17 days agao at Hereford, clearly has a chance, but is no good thing in a very open race; our fancy is Hemry Daly´s consistent Mage d´Estrival (Mark Bradburne). The most interesting runner here is Paul Nicholls´ Raffaello (Sam Thomas) in the beginners chase at 15.20. He looked very promising in his younger days, but has been off the track now for over 2 years. Sam Thomas also rides the debutant Aachen for Venetia Williams in the second division of the maiden hurdle at 16.20. He was listed class on the flat for André Fabre, but this looks quite a strong race (much better than the first division. The opposition includes 3 David P ipe runners, best of whom could be Cricket Boy (Timmy Murphy), whose dam was a high class hurdler, and Bruslini (Philip Hobbs/ Tom O´Brien) beaten favourie his last 2 starts, but not disgraced either time, and sure to win before long. Main feature at Clonmel´s Irish N.H. fixture is the listed novice hurdle over 2 3/4 miles at 15.35, with only 5 runners. Caim Hill (Philip Fenton/ Mr. BT O´Cnnell) has won his last 4 races, but they were all last summer, and on recent form On the Way Out (JE Kiely/ Tom Doyle),only beaten 5 lengths when 9th of 29 in a big handicap last time, and the promising Cockleshell Road (Edward O´Grady/ Andrew McNamara) look more likely winners. Trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Ruby Walsh can do little wrong at present and they can win the first two races with Earth Mother at 14.35 and Financial Reward half an hour later.
