German runners at Cagnes-sur-mer and Nad al Sheba

All 3 German-trained runners at Cagnes-sur-mer today are in the same race, the 2000 metres handicap at 16.05, so making a selection is difficult. Delano (Wernet Baltromei/ Dominique Boeuf), White Bull (Sid-Ali Ghoumrassi) and Salon Turtle (/Pavel Vovcenko/ Julien /Augé) would all have a chance if at their best, but our preference is for the first-named. Their best hopes should be Happy Spirit (Brown/ Ryan Moore) and Front House (de Kock/ Kevin Shea). The other German-trained runner here is Peter Schiergen´s Duellant (Andra sch Starke), who runs in a 2000 metres handicap on turf at 17.45. He seems well treated, but the likeliest winners are Without aPrayer (Ralph Beckett/ Frankie Dettori) and Bound by Hinour (Herman Bown/ Ryan Moore). Main feature of another high class card is the second round of the Al Maktoum Challenge over 9 furlongs on dirt at 18.45. This looks a match between My Indy (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), an impressive winner here last time, and Asiatic Boy (Mike de Kock/ Johnny Murtagh), one of the stars here the last two seasons, winner of the triple crown here in 2007 and runner-up last year in the Dubai World Cup itself. Obviously if he can run up to that form on his first race for 10 months then he will be hard to beat now.
