Unfortunately there is a poor turnout with only 5 runners, two of them with no pretensions to listed class. Dansant (Ger Butler/ Dane O´Neill) is the logical favourite here and is the highest-rated runner. He holds Suits Me (Tom Tate/ Micky Fenton), 2 1/2 lengths behind him at Lingfield before Christmas and now only one pound better off, but Clive Brittain´s Kandidate (Neil Callan) could be dangerous; this inconsistent performer ran a stinker last time, but is certainly capable enough on his day. Best race this afternoon at Southwell is te 7 furlongs handicap at 16.30, which looks very brricky. Bottom-weight Boss Hog (Roger Curtis/ Greg Fairley) deserves to win this having finishef runner-up in his last 4 races, 3 of them here, and looking very unlucky last time; however the handicapper keeps putting hium up for these defeats, which hardly seems fair. Curtis also has chances with German-bred Safin (Graham Gibbons) in the 2 mile handicap at 15.30. This is another inconsistent performer, but has run a couple of good races recently. With Jamie Osborne´s stable coming back into form, he can win the mile handicap at 17.00 with top-weight Amber Moon (Tom Queally).
