Southwell and Naas

today´s all-weather card at Southwell consists of 5 class 6 races and two class 5, so it is hard to get enthused, but the best betting heat is clearly the 1 3/4 miles handicap at 15.10 CET with 14 runners. Several likely types here, and on recent form we make Gayanula (Julie Camacho/ Brian McHugh), Oberlin (Tommy Keddy/ Nicky Mackay) - both runners-up here last -time-out - and Fortunella (Gay Kelleway/Adam Kirby), who has a good CD record, our three for the short list. United Nations (Neil Wilson/ lee Enstone), a very easy CD winner last time, can follow up in the mile handicap half an hour later, where top-weight Davenport (Rod and James Millman) looks the main danger. Clearly the best race of the day is the Grade Two novice hurdle at 14.45 at Naas, in which Mikael d´Haguenet (Willie Mullins/ Ruby Walsh) will start at a very short price to continue the good run of trainer and jockey. He was most impressive in disposing of the highly-rated Pandorama last time out. Mullins an d Walsh also have prospects with Jayo in the novice chase at 14.15, but Made in Taipan (Tom Mullins/ Davy Russell) who has been running well in good company, may be stronger.
