all-weather action at Lingfield and Wolverhampton

All-weather racing this afternoon from Lingfield and Wolverhampton and "always trying" Mark Johnston looks the man to follow with fancied runners at both meetings. At Lingfield the main event is the class 4 handicap for 3yo´s over 10 furlomgs at 16.00 CET and Johnston´s Neuchatel (Joe Fanning), a close fourth last time after missing the break, can get the better of last-time-out winner Doncosaque (Paul Howling/ Shane Kelly).

While at Wolverhampton, the stable´s Nightjar (Greg Fairley) can defeat Stan Moore´s New Years Eve winner Southandwest (Luke Morris), with bottom-weight Blue Charm (Sylvester Kirk/ Dale Gibson) a possible danger. Both these races have small fields, but the other races are quite competitive, notably the 1 1/2 mile handicap at 17.00 at Lingfield, which looks wide open with 12 runners. 10yo Little Richard (Mark Wellings/ Adam Kirby) keeps his form remarkably well, but seems to reserve his best performances for Wolverhampton; Sunset Boulevard (Tor Sturgis/ Dane O´neil) has a good CD record, but our preference is for the royally-bred Drum Major (Gary Moore/ George Baker), who has disappointed a couple of times, but should be capable of scoring off this rating. Another one who has frequently been well-backed without winning is Welsh Opera (Steve Williams/ Richard Kingscote), and despite his outside draw, he can finally get off the mark in the 6 furlongs handicap at 17.05 at Wolverh ampton. Also at the Midlands track, Pat Haslam has entered 3 in the 1 1/2 miles handicap at 16.35. Top-weight Hi Dancer (Declan carroll) would appear to be his main hope after a very easy win at Southwell last time; that was a pretty awful race, but so is this! German-bred Safin (Roger Curtis/ Graham Curtis) has not run on the flat for 14 months, but could be an interesting outsider here.
